What really struck me, looking at this episode through twenty first century eyes, is Jack's approach to bereavement....
He turns up at George's with a bottle of whiskey, doesn't really seem shocked or empathetic about the death of Alison, tells Haskins he's out of order giving George a week's absence, and generally carries on like it's no biggie
I think he is the archetypal man's man. He does touch him on the arm in the hospital, a rare show of emotion and then visits him for a drink so he's not on his own. Remember he wasn't too keen on Alison. Keeping George busy was his way of looking after him by stopping him from dwelling on it but a the end when he gets home, you can see George is stunned. Another point to remember is that The Sweeney is Regancentric and the focus is very much on him and his emotions.

Yes, all good points Steve, and I agree, within the context of the Sweeney it all makes sense
But, like a lot of things, viewed with a modern day sensibility, it seems quite shocking
I have the same reaction to them roaring round the streets with no one wearing a seatbelt

I watched Hit and Run and the DVD intro by Sheila Ruskin at the weekend - I had enjoyed a few scoops but I was surprised she mentioned something along the lines - there were contractual issues with Stephanie Turner (Alison) and she was written out of the script. - or words to that effect!
I guess having Carter's wife killed added to the character of the skip we come to admire... it was cleverly written, and for the first time showed a bit more of a caring side 'get him back to the job' side to Regan as well.
'Drink down to the label with you' - They well and truly killed that bottle!
Ruskin also mentions using Colet Court in the passage as a mock up for the school interior and cells etc. I'm definitely paying more attention to the 2005 intro segments this cycle of watching.

Just watching Hit and run on itv 4 and just noticed a blooper I'd never seen before.
When R&C go to miss grindens flat to confront her and Fowler you can see one of the crew In the mirror.
God What an Anorak I am 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I thought it was going to be a reflection in the budgie's mirror when she takes the cover off the cage
Sharp spotting Albert, can't say I've noticed it before, he looks like he's taking a leak-

If I remember correctly you can see the film crew reflected in the side of the blue Marina as it whizzes of down Colet Gardens, straight after hitting Alison and just before you see her lying on the road.

More spots from hit and run - thanks to Arthur Pringle back in July 2018. It wasn't really Stephanie Turner that got run over, it was a stuntman! And there were further instances of crew being in shot when they shouldn't be. Gene.

Gene, looks like Peter Brayham driving the Marina? Shame he passed away relatively early - I could imagine he would be the kind of chap who would have attended a meet. Never knew until I caught the repeat a few weeks ago that he was in 'From Russia With Love' too

I did try to contact Peter many years ago about the Meets but sadly never had a reply. Here he is (far right) during the filming of Life On Mars, setting up the car bomb scene, not long before he passed away sadly.
