A contender for the best episode of series 2, this one, in my opinion. Just rewatched it and Colin Welland was brilliant as Tober. Loved the run down area where the junk shop was located.

Colin Welland was brilliant in whatever production he was in. Tober is out there as one of THE best characters in The Sweeney. His portrayal of Frank Chadwick in the first Sweeney film was also great. He also played a great part as Tom Binney in Villain as Nigel Davenport's sidekick in the Police force.
A nice bloke in real life too who took the time to relay a message to us all a few years before he passed away and wished us all well on a Faces themed Meet which he couldn't attend due to ill health.
Gene.

The only thing wrong with this episode is knowing that i'll spend a lot of time afterwards saying "ok sweeeneeeey". Brilliant episode.

Faces is one of my very favourite episodes and Colin Welland as Tober really does come across as the sort of bloke you would NOT want to be on the wrong side of! Steed

Gene. Completely agree with you Gene regarding Colin's stand out performance in Faces. He also came over as a really great bloke himself. As you know, along with Brian Blessed Colin made his name. In the BBC Police series Z Cars set in the Liverpool suberb of 'Newtown.'(Where I spent my childhood.) Charles.

It's always been one of my favourite episodes too since I first saw it as a one off repeat on Channel 4 one night in January 1996. 22 years ago this month!

There are definitely some episodes which bear repeated viewings more than others and for me Faces is up there alongside Ringer, Jackpot, Abduction, Stoppo Driver, Poppy and I Want The Man. I dare say everyone's top choices would be different, but these particular episodes have something which always keeps me coming back. With Faces there's something about the way the soundtrack is perfectly edited on top of the action and storyline, it just sits 'right' somehow. Fantastic opening teaser before the titles start too. One of the top episodes of all four series. Btw, Villain, if you look closely when the blag is going down near the end, a Western diesel hydraulic passes the factory!
