Holly in Red Dwarf not a main four character but integral to the series none the less. Groutie in Porridge, famously only in three episodes but his legend runs throughout. So well cast with Peter Vaughan Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners

He did cross my mind Sam. Talkie Toaster was so popular in his initial appearance that he was given a reprise in an episode where the crew look to help Holly regain her full I.Q .
Here's a clip of his return. What an annoying little gadget he was !

An honourable mention to Liz Smith, who played the part of "Nana" in The Royale Family. I remember Nana asking Antony's new girlfriend Emma (Sheridan Smith) who was a vegetarian whether she could have some wafer thin ham!
She also appeared in The Sweeney episode "Hit and Run", The Vicar Of Dibley, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.
In fact, Liz Smith spent a lifetime in entertainment often playing minor characters, for which she won a BAFTA Award for "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for the 1984 film A Private Function.
One of the best.

I do love the nerve-wracked postman in 'Keeping Up Appearances'...
The character of Professor Peach (played by the legendary Benny Hill) is a minor gem in the major gem that is 'The Italian Job'...
Who can forget DC Jellineck in the very late episodes of 'The Sweeney'?! He added a really lovely touch of grubby humour to proceedings I thought!!!
(sorry if any of the above have already been mentioned!!)
There are many, many more of course!! What a superb thread...

Excellent thread.
I like the Major in Fawlty Towers.
Bernard Lee as M in the early Bond films.
