'Sin On Saturday' is featured in the clip below from 'TV Hell', it starts at 3m 25. It doesn't seem any worse than lots of other live shows, look at 'The Word', a byword for shambolic tv yet it lasted 5 years.
I remember ITV used to show really poor one off comedy shows with people you've never heard of at Christmas, they did it for a few years running in the 90's, the shows were tucked away late at night & shown in between Christmas & New Year. I can't remember the titles or who was in them, only that they were head scratchingly bad. When 24 hour ITV began, that's when the rot began, they could get away with showing cheap dreck like 'The Hitman And Her' & excuse it by saying it was for audiences who came in drunk from a night out.

When 24 hour ITV began, that's when the rot began, they could get away with showing cheap dreck like 'The Hitman And Her' & excuse it by saying it was for audiences who came in drunk from a night out. Speaking of cheap late night TV, around the time of Hitman there was a particular short show that would appear. It could even have been part of the awful Night Network from the late 80s. It certainly didn't last more than a few episodes and it was one of those things that would wake you from a drunken snooze and have you shake your head in disbelief. Basically, it was a "Yoof" programme which would last about 5 minutes and it seemed to consist of tips aimed at students living away from home for the first time. It would have the look as if it was made on a camcorder and there would be wacky presenters with even wackier camera angles. They would do things like how to make a quick risotto and daft presenters would sing I go blotto for risotto etc. It was truly awful. I can't remember the name, but The Day Today did an excellent spoof of the show which was so close to the actual show it was parodying . Here's the spoof version - which I have just realised features one half of the Father Ted writing team Graham Linnehan in his younger days.

"Get Stuffed" was the show Nightfly, according to the producer's website they made 284 episodes! lastditchtv.com/dir/?page_id=580Another short show which was quite good was 'Night Shift' with Colin Bennett from 'Take Hart'. A similar show called 'As It Happens' was on Channel 4 in 1990-92, this featured Andy Kershaw, Michael Groth & others turning up at various places & filming live. I remember one from a prison with Andy Kershaw & another from London Zoo. It was originally shown in the afternoon. The only clip I can see on youtube is one from Silverstone.

Thanks Arthur. I couldn't for the life of me remember the title. Shocked to find out there were so many episodes. Maybe there weren't as many occasions when I ended up waking on the sofa after the odd shandy as I thought. Actually, after seeing a few clips of Get Stuffed tonight, it looks like The Day Today spoof underplayed the parody if anything.

This programme wasn't discontinued as it didn't get beyond a pilot, Dr Who spin off 'K-9 And Company' from 1981. Its unimaginative opening titles resemble a car advert, the catchy theme tune was written by the man who did the string arrangements on 'I Don't Like Mondays' & 'Fairytale Of New York'.

It is strange when you think that (apart from pilot television shows - very different) certain shows that were filmed for an entire run (6 episodes for example) were pulled prior to their run being finished...
When you think about the costs and the time involved it must have been one heck of a decision to actually take something off the air!! Very bold indeed!
I suppose it means the shows must have been truly awful but how on earth was that not spotted before the recording was finally finished??!!
