This is one of the episodes that people seem to like. Or not.
I think it is a great episode, being insightful into Regan's private life.

I like 'Cover Story'. It's not the usual complex Sweeney plot but nothing wrong with seeing Jack Regan falling for a girl. Interesting first date ! Sandy played by Prunella Gee reminds me very much of a Holly Golightly type (Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys). Apart from the romance, Sandy's story brings up the issue of journalists protecting their sources being not dissimilar to police protecting their informants. Carter's unclouded judgement of the case makes him a tough interviewing officer when Sandy becomes a suspect. It also becomes clear that Regan is not prepared to leave the force for anything or anyone.

I was reading that Michael McStay who plays the nightclub manager did a screentest for James Bond when they were deciding who to replace Connery, John Ronane from 'Trust Red' & Julian Glover from 'Queen's Pawn' were also tested.

Interesting Arthur suppose they were all up for the Bond gig with Lazenby too.

Interesting Arthur suppose they were all up for the Bond gig with Lazenby too. From what I've read on this Bond site- debrief.commanderbond.net/topic/7668-the-casting-of-bond-in-lald/ it was when they were considering who would play Bond for 'Live And Let Die' ( Moore's first Bond film ) onwards. Hard to imagine Ronane in particular as Bond. From the sounds of it they prioritised possible Bond actors in terms of age, height & looks rather than acting ability.
