It was mentioned in conversation the other day that The Sweeney DVD clean-ups were from 2002- 2004, 20years ago! almost as long as the series end to the clean-up of the DVDs.

It was mentioned in conversation the other day that The Sweeney DVD clean-ups were from 2002- 2004, 20years ago! almost as long as the series end to the clean-up of the DVDs. Yes - I remember the box sets coming out; I eagerly waited for the release of each set. In fact it was the only reason I purchased a DVD player!
I had recorded the repeats from Granada Plus; which had been edited somewhat, whatever Granada Plus were using as broadcast masters were appalling, that added to the crap quality of my VHS nudged me more to get a DVD player as the restored box sets were being released. I can vividly remember watching some episodes and seeing scenes and lines of dialogue I had never seen (as they had been cut out on the repeats).
Last Autumn (2021) saw the 40th anniversary of the first broadcast of S1 of Only Fools and Horses. 40 years! I can remember watching that first episode. Feels like last week.

My sentiments exactly about The Sweeney, Sparky. I can remember seeing odd lines of dialogue restored. Another good thing about the DVD release was the ability to see the episodes in the as broadcast order. Both the Ch5 and Granada Plus repeats were all over the gaff.
