With all the new versions of Monopoly that seem to be getting made I think you are right GC, Monopoly will be around for a very long time to come!!!
It is lovely to think that even in this time of really very clever technology there is still time for a good old board game! Long may it continue too...

Great topic! Monopoly is just brilliant, and I remember hours of fun playing with my family. We always had our own ‘family’ rules such as ‘If we land on someone, we ‘fess up and not just try to get away with the property owner not watching’, ‘If we get the Street Repairs card we just ignore it and put it to the bottom of the pile’, ‘We can buy property on the first round (although I don’t think we thought that you couldn’t anyway)’ and ‘We all start off with an extra 2 x £500 notes’. My Dad always used to buy Old Kent and Whitechapel Road and I think now it was either to let me or my brothers win, or maybe so he would do badly and be able to leave the game early… We still play now with our own kids every Christmas and sometimes have to leave the game set up until the next day to be continued…

A word of warning about Monopoly: never invite Ally Fraser around to play it, he's such a bad loser!

I can't remember finishing a game of it when playing it properly. It can take hours. Great game though

The problem with Monopoly is there's a long time between knowing you're going to lose and the game actually ending.

Yes we love monopoly, I bought a deluxe limited edition set years ago which I still use, it’s like an identical replica of the first edition set from the 1930s, comes in a nice wooden box! Tis so retro

Years ago I used to play the warfare game Risk’ Twas a great game which could be extremely time consuming to say the least , and when it came to precise strategic military planning, it was certainly on a par with Trust the Gene Genie’s 4:3 Retro meets

I'm surprised in how many different versions of Monopoly there are. The original game dates from the 1930s.
It kept me and my brother going during winter power cuts when we were snowed in as kids (pre internet days!). We had a candle in the middle of the board. That game went on for days!
My kids still play Cluedo.

Don't remember playing board games much, we had 'Bucaneer', can't remember the rules only the counters which were little gold bars & jewels. Same with Cluedo, don't recall actually playing it but I did like the little gun, candlestick, etc.

I also remember getting Battleships for Christmas. That was an MB game and there was a blue one and a red one with red and white pegs to indicate a HIT or MISS. I used to just put all mine together in one area to try and cause confusion. Lots of fun - although before we had that we used to just draw a 10 x 10 grid on paper with A - J along the top and 1 - 10 down the side and draw our battleships on...
