I googled Del Henney and I was very happy find out he still with us I found an interesting Guardian article by Mark Kermode on the very, very stressful time Del and the other actors had making Straw Dogs in which Del had his most famous role. ( Besides Del, there were at least two other Sweeney actors in this film. ) www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/film/2003/aug/03/features.reviewCharles. Interesting article Charles, funny seeing that Sweeney fan Kenneth Williams mentioned Odd that the author of the novel on which Straw Dogs was based, Gordon Williams, had never read his own novel, he also co created the tv series 'Hazell' with Terry Venables. Quite a number of Sweeney actors in Straw Dogs, 7 altogether I think, Colin Welland has said that Peckinpah cast him & Donald Webster after seeing them in Welland's first tv play 'Bangelstein's Boys'.

Re: the Straw Dogs article. I found the Kenneth Williams bit (And T.P. Mckenna's response.) funny too Arthur. Peckinpah the director was a right character. Charles.

It’s funny. If they made brown cars these days, I wonder whether or not anyone would buy one? And yet they look fantastic back then. The shapes of old cars are so much more attractive, too. I think we miss angles on cars! I enjoyed it when Regan was interrogating ... Eric? The barber, anyway and how convenient his appointment was. I have to keep remembering that it was just filmed - there weren’t teams dedicated to finding props, costumes and set dressings from 30 years in the past . I think it’s funny, the way they’re describing Regan and his behaviour. It all seems quite normal to me, can’t think why!

60s and 70s cars were brilliant. One of the many reasons why I find the Sweeney as must see! I remember driving many of them when I passed my test at first.

I'd love to have a go in one, though I suspect it would be a shock to the system in many ways - the steering would probably be a challenge and a half, and my dad's told me something about needing to press the clutch twice? He still does it, I think, but I can't remember the reason behind any of it. If it weren't such a money pit, I think I'd like a vintage car. Shame they can't make new ones that look like the classics.

If you started off driving these cars then it’s not too bad, but if you’ve only ever driven modern stuff then it would take getting used too. The pressing the clutch twice only applies to non synchromesh gearboxes, which were phased out on cars by about the 1940s but buses and lorries continued to have them for a few more years.
The oldest car I have driven was a 1959 mark 2 Ford Consul, three speed gearbox, with the lever on the steering column. I’ll see if I can remember what stuff from the 60s and 70s I’ve driven and make a list.

THREE gears? Blimey.
I'd love to see the list if you get the time :)
How strange (I do remember the word synchromesh, so that must have been what he said!) because since he was born in 53 ... he shouldn't have had to do any of that! But he did drive a bread van in about 1970 ... and there's every possibility that it was a van from that era!

There are some modern cars made that have brown paint but it doesn't look right these days. Brown doesn't look much better than when it is on a tidy mk3 Cortina, and I don't just mean the Guv's: Sam.

The one in the Sweeney is gorgeous but, let’s be honest, the Guv’s is the best really, as is always the case!
