I have watched a lot of tv during the lockdowns in Melbourne. That ends tonight. Yippee ! Lockdown 6 ends at midnight.
It feels like the same subject matter reemerges again and again on new shows with different viewpoints, unseen footage and new discoveries!
So what are those subjects that are continually available to watch? What have you seen again and again?
Here is the start of my list:
- Egypt and the Pyramids
- Hitler
- Titanic (I started watching one of those yesterday and did get drawn in to the end).
- Bermuda Triangle
- Jack the Ripper

Wouldn't say I've seen any programmes about them as I'm not interested but the British Royal Family dies very hard over here.
Jack The Ripper covers two subjects which are forever being covered- serial killers & people dying under 'strange' circumstances.
Not a subject but in terms of repeats there's a show over here which I can't stand & is seemingly on every day & has been for years, 'Come Dine With Me'.
WW2 has to top the list of done to death subjects with the emphasis on Hitler & the Nazis, WW1 ( or any other war ) barely gets a look in.

Agree on all the ones listed so far Batgirl and Arthur but another one I can think of right now that's had many documentaries made;
Elvis Presley!

Paranormal stuff. Maybe I see it as my wife watches it. I think it's all utter garbage btw!

Cookery and property for me. Homes under the Hammer just may as well be permanently based in Stoke-on-Trent. Definitely the Nazis Monday to Friday, though they’ve started to creep into (invaded? 😆) the weekend schedules too. Celebrities going on some form of self discovery whether it be family history or a canal trip get on my tits too.

Bake Off style programmes where a bunch of non-professionals battle each week with the weakest performer of the week having to leave, whilst they are judged by people who aren't necessarily experts and a couple of has-been celebs. Then rehash the show for many spin offs - Sewing - like Bake Off but replace sewing/clothes making for cakes. Pottery - substitute amateur bakers for amateur potters. Last night I had the misfortune to see a Bake Off style show with woodworking enthusiasts.
Documentaries:- tons of shows following the Police with footage taken from their bodycams as they chase and arrest criminals who have just put innocent people at risk yet whine about how the handcuffs are hurting them. Replicate the shows on all channels so you can't recall which show you're watching and you can only recall the name of the one that Jez Quigley from Coronation Street narrates.
An umpteenth documentary about Jimmy Bl**dy Saville.
Tony Robinson presenting a dozen shows about "Hidden London" exploring the abandoned underground stations everyone has seen before in his previous documentaries, or him spending a day with the sewage workers and weaving some history about Victorian times into the story.
Air Disaster shows - recreate an air disaster. Tell the story with some experts who know what they are talking about, but include actors to recreate the crash and over dramatise the story with lines which weren't even heard on the cockpit voice recorder.

Yes they show him exploring London here too. He was even in Australia at some stage and he explored our streets! They keep repeating it.
Actually we get a lot of 'explorers' from the UK coming out to explore Australia and film it.
The ones that come to mind are Martin Clunes, Billy Connolly, Jane McDonald, that train guy with his old red book; Micheal Portillo (I had to google who he is).
There are so many train trip shows. I don't mind watching the occasional one as who doesn't like a train and it is good to see other countries but there certainly are a lot of those shows.

I don't mind the odd train show too, particularly the ones Michael Palin did years ago. As for Portillo, another in the long line of ex-politicians who just seem to drift seamlessly into TV/radio presenting after their political career has gone bust.

Not saying this to be controversial but it's surprising how few documentaries I've noticed on arguably the most 'famous person' who ever lived, Jesus Christ.
