I remember seeing those full width rear window stickers with manufacturer or model names, usually in red I think. Also a lot of the Fords eg Mk4/5 Cortinas, Mk3 Capri's etc had dark headlight covers which were advertised as only suitable for daytime use Steed Yeah I remember those JS, all over the place late 80's and early '90's but looked very dated circa 1993 and a bit naff for me.
Like this Escort example.

And even sadder was "Turbo" when it was a 1.3L

That takes me back, I had a D Reg 1.4L Escort in black just like that but without any of the stickers in the windows. I've always hated anything on my screens and was glad when tax discs were finally done away with. Which leads me on to another accessory that we don't see nowadays: tax disc holders. Sam.

In every old car magazine that I have there are adverts abound for radios and speakers...
You do still see them to a certain extent but you'd never get a new car now without at least a radio with MP3 connectivity and a quartet of speakers!!
Oh for the days when you had to carefully chose your radio (or maybe 8-track, or maybe even a radio/cassette unit!!!) then carefully chose 2 speakers!

To go with the Escort rear window sticker you will need these.... Cheaper to go to Argos for options than Ford

IIRC Clarion's were a aspirational brand for car stereos in the '80's & '90's then the likes of Sony and the other big electronics companies muscled in. Don't play anything with the remote trace of bass on those Goodman's speakers you'd have a crap thudding sound at 2-3 decibels for the time you'd have them in your motor

It was frustrating as you couldn't turn them up without distorting and they would battle against the noisy road noise as you felt every single bump as you went over it. The Metro was replaced with a Volvo 360 which felt like a plane at cruising height in comparison. I once bought a plastic fake radio cover which ended up in the bin as I realised it wasn't convincing, before moving on to one with a removeable front. In retrospect, I perhaps should have opted for Malcolm McDowell's tranny hanging from the mirror arrangement in O' Lucky Man.

This is a great thread!! and when ya think about it, I can't believe how many things there are. Here's a couple I think! 1. The little plastic strips that you'd slide on the edge of ya door, so when you open your car door ya wouldn't scrape ya paint!?
2. What about a chequered travel blanket! Lol unless ya DC Burtonshaw, I guess these days if ya break down on the motorway ya told to stand outside ya car well away! Instead of sat in the back with ya travel blanket on ya knees, munching on cornbeef pickled sandwiches whilst playing I Spy!

I've got a few choice aftermarket bits on my '68 Cooper S.... 1) Speedwell interior door handles with rubber safety bosses on the end. 2) SPQR column mounted rev counter pod, finished in black crackle pattern paint containing a period Smiths rev counter. 3) Bespoke aftermarket dash from a company called 'Radbourne' who's main business was making rally jackets, I say bespoke but actually it's just a thin piece of plywood covered in cheap black vinyl! 4) Roof console of unknown origin with holes for electrical switches and a radio or 8-track player, like the dash it's just plywood covered in black vinyl. 5) Wilmot-Bredon locking fuel filler caps. 6) 'Benelite' grille with holes for integral spotlamps, it came with the car but when it was new c.1968 it would have cost a week's wages! 7) Tinted perspex sunvisors in place of the original soft vinyl ones. 8) 'Shadolite' period tinted glass in the rear screen and rear quarterlight windows with a dark brown tint, I also have matching the door glass and front screen but these are now illegal so haven't fitted them. 9) 'Cosmic' Mk3 5''x10'' alloy wheels, back in the day Cosmic were a really popular and successful company based in Walsall, you can still buy replica alloys today but they're not exactly the same as the originals from the '60s and '70s. These Mk3s are a different style to the earlier Cosmic Mk1s and 2s, they look like miniature Lamborghini Miura / Espada alloys with holes in to alloy heat from the brakes to vent out. 10) Speedwell gear knob extension to bring the knob a little closer to hand when you're strapped in by the.... 11) .... Britax patented lap-over seatbelts, as you sit comfortably on the.... 12) .... Microcell black vinyl reclining sports seats! Villain
