Were there any tv themes for you that just gave you the creeps or scared you out of your wits? There was a couple for me as a kid. The Old News At Ten Theme - I love it, but for some reason - especially in winter when it was really dark and the room was dimly lit - this was spooky as all hell! It was the dramatic violins and the booming 'boooong' bit. Also, there was something a bit sinister-creepy about the original World In Action theme. Again, I love it but it still makes me shiver! They are the only two I can think of for me, just now, but no doubt more will come to mind :)

Dr Who a bit when it started in the early 60s when I was a kid. A programme I've never liked, incidentally!

Agree with 2 of those, World in Action made me think of a terrible future as a little boy and the miserable sounding voice over presenter didn't help.....
I think the earliest 1963 Dr Who opening titles theme is a bit haunting too...... must have been very futuristic and high tech sounding for the time though.
This one was a bit startling whenever it started and I heard the blokes voice going "Ba-ba - Bababar, Ba-Ba Bababar"! (This is the only version I can find, so that bit's a little stifled).
I was very young when this was on, but here's another:

Here's one that always stopped me in my tracks as a kid. Some of these theme tunes were very well written I think..

It didn't really 'scare' me as such but kind of thought the BBC Darts coverage music from the 1980's was a bit irritating at the time. Kind of ironic I'd get into electronic/alternative music acts 15 or so years later sampling or using similar sounds.

The only sci fi I've ever liked were the tv series of Hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy and a film called Galaxy Quest, both of which were p*** takes!
