When you consider how the Rolling Stones song "The Last Time" is very similar to a 1955 song by The Staple Singers called "This May Be The Last Time," but The Stones claimed it as their own. Double standards Michael? It was Allen Klein, Stones manager in the late 1960s and who controlled the band's copyrights, who sued The Verve for plagiarism shortly after Bitter Sweet Symphony was released. In late 1997, The Verve settled with Klein by giving Jagger and Richards songwriter credits on Bitter Sweet Symphony and so gave publishing royalties to ABKCO Records, Klein's company.
Meanwhile Andrew Loog Oldham (another Stones manager) who also had a songwriting credit on The Last Time separately sued The Verve in 1999 for about $1.7 million for songwriter royalties. It was an orchestral arrangement of The Last Time, recorded in 1965 by the Andrew Oldham Orchestra, which The Verve used. As a result of the two suits against The Verve, all royalty payments on Bitter Sweet Symphony went to Oldham, Jagger and Richards for many years.
As they say in the music biz, "Where there's a hit, there's a writ"
By the by, in April 2019 Mick & Keith Richards signed over all their publishing for "Bitter Sweet Symphony" back to The Verve
Now you know
Allen Klein is a "wrong 'un" and has previous. He was The Beatles manager for a while. When The Beatles dismissed of his services in the mid 70's, he bought "Bright Songs" who owned the copyright to "He's So Fine" by the Chiffones. They claimed Harrison plagiarised their song for "My Sweet Lord", meaning Klein gets royalties on his former colleagues' hit.

Thanks for the background on 'Bittersweet' everyone, glad The Verve are getting something out of it... albeit more than 20 years later.

I did hear in 2019 that the Verve matter was back in court so I'm pleased they got a favourable settlement. The annoying thing is that these things are supposed to be sorted out by your record company pre release to ward off any of this kind of nonsense. I don't think the origin of the sample was unknown so it should have been sorted at the start.

Although this has been documented previously on here that Paul McCartney pulls up at The Old Justice in Bermondsey, the scenes in which he is on top of the building having his cuppa rosie are set on what was the Chambers Wharf Cold Store again in Bermondsey just a few hundred yards away from The Old Justice:

Another location that we have mentioned on the forum previously is that from the video of Souvenir by OMD. The video is entirely shot in the grounds of the Stowe School and Stowe National Trust gardens, Stowe, Buckinghamshire. The specific location that Paul Humphries sings from is the Palladian Bridge that crosses the gardens' Octagon Lake:

This is one that has bought back childhood holiday memories as well as more recent visits when Annie and I have taken day trips to Dorset. Although the video has a bit of a pony storyline to it I recognised the locations as being filmed at Corfe Castle, Corfe Castle railway station (while derelict and before the restoration of the steam railway), Swanage promenade, and The Old Harry Rocks between Swanage and Studland Bay:

I think this is from 1983, Sam ? That was a very good year in music IMO.

Certainly was 1983 Del, have a house-point. Sticking with Dorset this was another immediately obvious one for me. Opening with a view of Durdle Door the video then pans across Man O' War bay before then concentrating mainly on Durdle Door beach and its famous limestone arch: Sam.

Loved this track and album on its release and still spin it now and then. Thanks for identifying the location Samuel.

The location was another easy one for me. As a kid my parents took me along there a couple of times when we stayed nearby then in more recent years Annie and I have stopped off there a couple of times with our kids.
Haven't been there for about fifteen years or so now so I think another tour of Dorset should be on the cards. The previous vid with Corfe Castle the station and Swanage have been more recent trips for us. Only last summer we were down at Corfe and Swanage, and had a boat trip past the Old Harry Rocks. The previous year we had a trip on the Swanage Steam Railway past Corfe Castle, so they are all very familiar to us.
