The British films made during WW2 when people were expected to take seriously british actors playing Germans always strike me as being ridiculous.

Interesting point about Equity Sparky, I think people just assume that there were no foreign actors available, not appreciating the union rules may have prevented them from working. Not sure if it is entirely correct; though some past experiences of Equity give me the impression that can be quite funny at times.

There are elements in EVERY Union that can be funny, and act like Kids. My Union is notorious for that.
Teds Child called our Union "A different race." - and was still wary of them when he was at "Central". TBH he was right, as there were then a lot of 'old school' members, there are still a few these days and are often too quick to kick up a fuss over something daft, and it's them who won't forget odd spats dating back 1973 either - I've been stuck in the middle of a few of them!

Now I think of it the BBC series 'Colditz' was good accent wise, I think all the actors playing Nazis had German accents, including Dennis Waterman in one episode. You have to laugh when an English actress with a cutglass accent says 'I'm a proud French woman' & Nazis are calling women 'sweetheart' or 'darlin'.
Anton Diffring was a German actor working a lot in Britain, often cast as a Nazi, ironically he was both Jewish & gay.

I've just watched the episode Dead on Arrival on TPTV and it's very good, it could have been an episode of The Sweeney. It was entirely in London, Van der Valk was over for The weekend with his wife and one of the passenger s on the plane died so he was dragged into a murder investigation. Bob Hoskins was in it too and there were some great locations in London in a chilly looking early 77

Watched another one earlier, which I recorded from TPTV last week, the second episode from the 1977 series 3, Accidental, and thought it was very good and well filmed with some great Dutch locations, again, in early 77, which I thought were very atmospheric. I love the outdoor street scenes with some great 70s cars, quite a few British ones, Mark 3 and 4 Cortinas, Transits and a Mini.

I watched episode 4 today, Wolf, and again enjoyed it. An interesting plot about a suspicious husband killing his wife's suspected illicit lover, which turned out to be a mistake as there was nothing untoward going on. The husband was played by the guy who was Councillor McAlister in the first series of the Beiderbecke Affair, sorry, forgotten his name.
One of the stand out features again is the outdoor filming, again in early 77, I just like this time of the year for some reason, the grey skies and bare trees I always think are atmospheric. I like the police VW Beetles too, I was learning to drive when this was filmed btw!!
