RIP Derek Fowlds, it was quite a sad surprise to read of this today, and yes we have lost another of the TV greats from the UK. As well as the roles mentioned in Yes Minister and Heartbeat, and his other appearances, I also remember he did a couple of villain roles in Gideon's Way, and Van Der Valk and everything he starred in, he acted the true professional. Shame I had to miss the Elstree do at the last minute, as he was one of those I was looking forward to seeing and hearing from.
My thoughts to his family.

Its telling that many people who knew Derek throughout his working life have today expressed the same opinion of him that we formed at the ITC event. He was a a genuinely nice fella who had time for fans and colleagues.

Very sad news Aside from his later works I always remember him with Basil Brush which I thought was one of his first TV series but on checking his IMDB page it was already nine years into his career. There's no mistaking from all the reports and comments on here that he was a genuinely likeable person. R.I.P. Mr Derek

Yes Sam, Basil Brush was the first thing I remember Derek appearing in during the seventies. Such a shame to lose worthy, excellent actors like him.
