Hello. I haven't had much warning with this and am not expecting miracles but I discovered last night that my Uncle is on the cover of the magazine which I am presuming is with the weekend edition of the Yorkshire Post today. I'm not sure how long it's available for; I'd never heard of the publication until last night so I really am not entirely sure. But my mum would love a copy and obviously, being in Devon, we can't buy one. I just wondered if anyone in that neck of the woods might be able to help. I can find a picture of the cover if needed - in short it's a man holding a carved walking stick outside what looks like a Folly or bit of a castle. I would of course reimburse the costs. I don't know how widely it's published so really don't know the chances of anyone being nearby enough to get a copy but hopefully there's no harm in asking. Here's a link to the article online. It doesn't have the cover itself, annoyingly, but gives some idea. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/heritage/the-stick-man-from-helmsley-who-has-people-beating-a-path-to-his-door-from-around-the-world-1-10173709

I am in South Yorkshire.
I can nip down the Newsagents and ask him to keep one back (I am good terms down there!) - assuming your uncle is on the Saturday Supplement?

Yes, I presume that that's what it is. It says The Magazine - Yorkshire Post. Saturday 28th December 2019. If you're happy to do that, that would be wonderful! www.pressreader.com/uk/yorkshire-post/20191228He's on the cover of the tiny picture in the top left. I know he's been on Countryfile a few times but couldn't comment on local news because ... I'm not local!

Nice story Bols thanks for sharing. It’s all quite bizarre really. He was a fish farmer who crashed his car after working crazy hours and realised he couldn’t keep doing it. I believe he had only ever done woodwork at school and now, about 20 years on, there’s always a waiting list of between 6-12 months for his work and every time that episode of Countryfile is on, orders go through the roof. He’s done very well. I remember visit the workshop when I was maybe 6? And him showing my brother and me how he did various bits. I don’t think it was as successful then but that would have been on the cusp of websites etc I suppose.

Great anecdote Bolly, thanks for posting. It is certainly good to hear that someone has managed to turn things around after such an incident caused by the drudgery and over working. To set himself up in that manner takes a certain amount of guts as well as tenacity, skill and to a lesser degree some good fortune. I hope it continues for him and that he enjoys the success that his skills bring. Sam.
