Has anyone also suggested White Horses?
I don't think so but it's flipping marvellous and deserves its place in the TV Theme Hall of Fame....

Jacky - White Horses
OH, I just love this one, thanks for putting it up. I remember it getting into the charts when I would have been about 8

From the same era as 'White Horses. Does anyone remember 'The Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe.' Which the BBC screened for children in the seventies. It was a much loved and remembered series for those who were kids at the time.
I bought the series for nostalgic reasons about ten years ago, and I also got the soundtrack.

There are so many classic themes to choose from, my favourites are... The Persuaders!, for me John Barry's finest hour, a piece of music which I listen to almost daily and never tire of! Very dark and moody for its time with a strange time signature and slightly at odds with the light hearted humour in many of the twenty four episodes - pure genius as far as I'm concerned. It's said that almost all of the original master tapes for the complete soundtrack of the series disappeared many years ago leaving just four or five tracks which have been released several times on different compilations, this would account for there being no soundtrack box set of CDs available from Network whereas most of the other well known ITC series have them available. The best quality tracks that have survived are all on the John Barry CD 'Themology', this features the full two minute version of the main theme which was edited into two shorter pieces for the actual broadcast, plus three of Ken Thorne's excellent incidental tracks. Somewhere on youtube there's a half hour long compilation of the incidental cues taken from the soundtrack by a fan of the show, which includes some of the 'lost' tracks. The Sweeney - say no more! I'd include the themes from 'Regan' and the spin off films too. The Professionals - Laurie Johnson is up there with John Barry for me, the soundtrack CD for this is well worth checking out, the incidental scores sounding much better than on the original broadcast episodes as they were buried in the mix and there a few different versions of the main theme as well. Strange Report - Roger Webb's very catchy theme to the Anthony Quayle private detective series from ITC, often overlooked and overshadowed by the other ITC stuff. The Protectors - another ITC classic with Tony Christie's fantastic version of Avenues & Alleyways, once again the Network soundtrack set is well worth a punt, Ken Thorne was kept very busy doing this soundtrack and The Persuaders from 1970 to 1972. There's lots of Fender Rhodes electric piano on this which is very much of its era and still sounds great now. Department S - An Edwin Astley Classic. The Champions - likewise! Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) - see above! The Saint - see above also! UFO - Barry Grey's best theme and incidental score, takes me right back to 1970. Dave Allen At Large - Alan Hawkshaw's brilliant 'The Blarney Stoned', there are several versions of this (some recorded by other session men and artists) but the one used for the series is by far the best. Whicker's World - Laurie Johnson's '60s gem... The Avengers - Laurie Johnson again, pure genius. The Zoo Gang - not so much Paul McCartney's main theme, more Ken Thorne's incidental tracks which are much, much better. Another probably forgotten ITC gem, they only made six episodes. Paul Temple - probably long forgotten by now, the main theme for this Francis Matthews series is very much of its time, recorded in '71 and has the feel of a slower 'Milk Tray' advert to it. Villain

The sound of the school holidays - along with The Flashing Blade (another classic theme tune)....

There was also this...
I remember the BBC repeating this during the School holiday mornings during the summer of 1985, along with the Pink Panther and Why Don't You.

Pipped to the post! I was going to post up both Robinson Crusoe and The Flashing Blade tonight but logged on and found them on here! But I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet: Sam.
