These days I don't get much time to watch the decent TV let alone the rubbish stuff that's on. The only one I will catch from time to time is "Homes Under The Hammer" to see the before and after results. I tend to find those that keep the property for themselves do a reasonably good job but there are many that let the properties out that are happy with utter crap finishes or decoration. Sam. Homes under the Hammer I once did find OK - but find it these days, tedius and snotty nosed.
Can't stand any of the presenters- wassisname Dublin should have stuck to Football punditry. Then I would have seen less of him!
The other short assed snotty nosed chap needs a kick up the backside as I find he just ventures into properties and spends 30minutes minutes sneering over them.
Besides, all the show talks about is "Property Portfolios" and "Major investments" - amazing when there it's core audience possibly couldn't afford a loaf of bread, never mind to buy a 2nd house and spend £50,000 doing it up.
I don't mind Escape to the Country - that is bearable. Though again - a majority of the people watching at that time won't be able to find £600,000 to move to a 8 bed roomed house in Norfolk.
Well done BBC!

Homes under the Hammer was a good watch but is well past its sell by date. They talk a lot of buzzcocks on there anyway..... And how much is your budget for new kitchen, bathroom, full decoration and landscaping ... oh and those roof repairs? Six grand and I'll do it in three weeks. I'll be doing all the work on it myself.

I reckon the percentage of rubbish TV has rocketed since the 70s since there is now almost/actually TV all the time so they have to find something to fill the schedules.
I remember a time in the latish 80s when ITV started to put stuff on all night, they repeated the UFO series in the Anglia region which I hadn't seen for ages.
I'm sure Sparky will have some interesting comments on this.

It was more to do with the expansion of daytime tv I think. The loss of schools and children's programs put a lot of hours into the schedule to fill. I remember ITV Night Time when it started and I seem to remember it being full of American imports. Programmes like America's Top Ten, Tour Of Duty ,American Gladiators spring to mind. Best 60s repeat I can remember was The Time Tunnel.

I remember a comedy rip-off of the Dirty Harry character, Sledge Hammer. Which was rubbish.

I do watch the odd one or two when channel hopping, as much through laziness as anything else. I've been caught watching the odd episode of 'Train Truckers' where Allelys Haulage cart locos and rolling stock around the country on massive low-loaders but it's getting a bit samey, by far the worst thing about it is the crap voiceover with constant fake jeopardy injected into it. I don't know who the voiceover bloke is but he should definitely hand in his Equity card. It's a common theme amongst these types of programmes though, they follow the same formula no matter what the subject is, it's all so predictable. Is it any wonder I watch so much of the older stuff on DVD like The Sweeney and ITC shows...? Villain

Dumbed down & formulaic with constant recapping & intrusive incidental music. Most of these programmes are infected by the reality tv syndrome of making a show all about the people in it at the expense of the subject. Everything is contrived in order to create a 'storyline' rather than just observing life as it happens, it's tabloid tv & even supposedly serious documentaries are guilty of it.

IIRC Granada were the region running things with the programming back then also IIRC didn't Tony Wilson's The Other Side of Midnight and cough.. The Hitman and Her feature on this before the night time thing became less prominent around 91/92? Think they also showed cult movies in this slot too and I saw Blade Runner for the first time back then too. Can probably add Tour of Duty and Sledge Hammer to this list they were crap but somehow I quite enjoyed watching them at the time.
