Anyone been following the BTCC this year?
I prefer it to F1 to be honest & where Football is concerned I've never had any interest in it so sorry if that offends anyone.
Anyway it's the final three rounds this weekend at Brands Hatch; just wondered if anyone had been following & would be watching it in ITV4?

I've only seen the odd bit this year DD which is a shame as I do love the BTCC. You certainly won't offend me or Sam with your views on football I am however a huge F1 fan though. Gene.

If it was F1 or Football Gene I'd watch F1 any day. I don't dislike it but it seems to be getting a little monotonous now. Fair play to Lewis Hamilton though; he's doing better than his Brother Nick in the BTCC though I do fully respect Nick for his efforts in the BTCC given his health. Nick has pulled out of the rest of the season to take stock & hopefully he'll be back next year.

When it comes to football I'd rather watch paint dry but I've always enjoyed watching most forms of motorsport especially F1, BTCC, DTM, Rallying, Moto GP, and motocross.
Unfortunately I don't get to watch as much as like so haven't kept up to date with the BTCC or F1 (or the others come to mention it!) but certainly over the years the BTCC has proved to be a fantastic race series that I really enjoyed from what was for me the classic days of the E30 BMWs and the RS Cosworth Sierras.
Spot on about Nick Hamilton there Double Zero, you've got to respect the guy in being able to compete at that level with such an illness and all credit to the authorities that have permitted him as well as Billy Monger to compete in modified cars.
Sam.

Apologies for not replying to this post sooner but yes I’ve watched the BTCC season with ITV4’s live coverage over the last few years including this season.
Overall it’s been a good season in the BTCC with a close battle between the WSR/BMW, Team Dynamics/Honda, BTC Racing and Team AmD along with drivers Colin Turkington, Andrew Jordan, Dan Cammish, Josh Cook and Rory Butcher who put in a good fight for the title.
Overall glad Colin Turkington was champion two years in a row and won this one a lot harder than last year too. In the last race at Brands it looked like the title had tilted towards Dan Cammish and Team Dynamics after a perhaps dubious move and tangle between Turkington and Matt Neal in the second race which saw Turkington near enough down and out for the title. But as happens with the BTCC (surely this isn’t rigged is it?) Cammish with a few laps to go in the last race binned it into the barriers and Turkington got enough points for the title win.
Cammish did do a good season and is very much champion material. Cruel how this ended for him but you can also argue the same for Turkington with perhaps that dubious move from Matt Neal too. Maybe/maybe not intentional but let’s say from an outsiders view did look a bit naught lets say and with Matt’s experience…
Turkington’s (sort of) teammate Andy Jordan also put up a good fight for the title this year with perhaps a few scrappy races and incidents perhaps putting pay to that. He’s been a champion before and could/should be so again but sadly looks like he’ll be leaving the BTCC next season due to the loss of his Pirtek sponsorship and perhaps a bit of politics within WSR.
Generally WSR have been the team of the year and did have an advantage with the BMW’s in the early races but this got clawed back quickly with both BTC Racing and Team AmD putting in good performances in the middle/late races to enable Josh Cook and Rory Butcher to almost challenge for the title. If they have good cars/packages next season they’ll be in the mix for sure but the likes of Ash Sutton, Tom Ingram, Sam Tordoff, Aiden Moffat, Tom Chilton, Jake Hill and Tom Olliphant in similar good packages could also be good prospects next season too.
Notably a decent comeback season for Jason Plato in the Vauxhall who along with team mate Rob Collard turned out alright if perhaps not spectacular results and can be seen as best of the midfield. However I feel Plato could have had a better season still if not for stupid start line errors in a couple of races which he easily could have added to his only win this year in the last race at Brands. Generally don’t really like Plato or Neal and know they’re Marmite characters who have their fans and aren’t exactly best mates but they’re still racing at the sharp end of the BTCC and can keep carrying on while they’re still at this level.
Not sure how kind or cruel this is but not a good season for Mark Blundell making his BTCC debut. Maybe he’ll do better next season but didn’t look comfortable in the car/BTCC environment at all this year so perhaps being kind it’s not really for him strange as he’s done reasonably okay in F1, Indy and other racing series. To be fair a lot of single seater drivers struggle in things like BTCC, Supercars and rallying so perhaps that’s the case for Mark too.
Overall things look good with the BTCC at the moment. Ideally I would like that meaner/fatter cars from the Super Touring era rather than Accords, Astra’s etc. but the current format works well and as long as they don’t tinker with it too much and the current crop of drivers do mature and battle for the title in the next few years future should be bright. Yes looks like some new drivers like Sutton, Ingram, Cammish, Cook, Butcher and others are going to change the old guard in the BTCC and rightly so IMO!
I’m looking forward to the 2020 season… who knows might do a race next year too.
