Just watching this now, its striking how different policing is now to what you see in The Sweeney, now least because its over 40 years ago I guess.
It would be like watching pre-war policing when the programme was on!

I've not seen this programme, is it on BBC ?
Does anyone ever read any of Peter Hitchins articles on the Met and modern Policing in general.( I know he's not everyone's cup of tea and can get up your nose sometimes, but he talks sense a lot of the time. ) he's always having a go at the Met and modern Policing and reckons they're not fit for purpose these days.
Try googling his article yesterday.
Charles.

I've seen some of Hitchens stuff and he's a funny one. About 50% of what he comes out with is rubbish, but the other 50% is usually quite sensible. Most newspaper columnists talk rubbish about 90% of the time

Hitchins can be a bit annoying at times, but I mentioned him only because he has some very sharp things to say about the modern Police. Not as a subject himself.

Though this recent thing with the Met being slated for investigating a "non-existant high ranking peado ring" (I think) is Bulls**t and a bit of a cover up. The Met Police acted on allegations (whether they are true, untrue whatever) where they have a duty to investigate those allegations.
There are numerous high profile people that have been Arrested, put through the courts and the press - and convicted of sweet FA. The Police forces that brought those cases aren't being investigated.
So why is the Met having to be put through this - did they get a little too close or upset a few in the upper echelons of the Government? When the Saville story broke - it was widely reported about various High Ranking politicians being involved - but they were never investigated until after they had passed away. The whole thing stinks!
That aside; Modern Policing seems to put Political Correctness up front first - the crime itself comes later.
I reported two people for trying to break into cars in a carpark; I sat in my car and watched them - while I was on the phone to the Police giving them the descriptions etc.. The police were more interested in collecting MY details and asking stupid questions - than actually despatching someone to attend first.
When the police car did arrive (Blue lights blazing, sirens blaring) about 30minutes later - the two car thieves had legged it.
The two coppers stood scratching their heads and asked why I didn't follow them......

Another couple of cops would have told you off if you had for getting involved.

Another couple of cops would have told you off if you had for getting involved. That's right.
Interestingly, this morning while taking my eldest son to school I travelled along a stretch of Road that has two fixed speed cameras. On that same road, the traffic police had parked up with a portable speed camera - not in a Van - a Traffic Police car and officer.
If there are already two fixed (and working) cameras along this stretch of Road, why the hell is a Uniformed Traffic officer and Police vehicle parked up doing the same job?
Is that not a waste of what little resources they have?
The use of Speed cameras seem to have increased somewhat since Police Forces / Council Partnerships were allowed to keep the fines they dish out, instead of them going straight to the Treasury.
Sure that's just a funny coincidence, the increase in speed cameras is purely for safety only - honest!

Is this worth watching? Every time I see the title I smile but I can’t help but think it will be a disappointment in the modern world
