After a few hours rest, mostly spent sleeping on Brenda's warm lap back on Rupert's filthy sofa, it is now time for some thoughts on the quite brilliant Steptoeland Meet. I travelled down unexpectedly with Peter Picard who bumped into me at Stafford station. We then got a fast train down to London town and enjoyed some lunch at the Warrington in Little Venice, together with a couple of much needed pints. We then met up with most of the Saturday crew for a couple of hours. After checking into my hotel in Earls Court - perhaps the only British guest or moggie there - it was time to meet up in Hammersmith and go on a pub crawl around various parts of London. The highlight of the night being a 1970s themed bar in West Hampstead, which was fascinating to see. I later bumped into a Vienna lookalike later in the evening! On the Sunday we met up at the usual Colet Gardens, and fortunately the rain had relented from the London area at least which meant we could go walking round all the wonderful Steptoe and Sweeney locations that Gene was going to show us all, plus some bonus ones too. After the first roast of the day in the William IV pub, it was time for an afternoon stroll around Kensall Green Cemetery, looking at locations from the Steptoe films, Villain, The Professionals and a favourite of mine: Theatre of Blood. Some hilarious stuff from Del here too. Unfortunately, myself, Del and Mickyosan were lagging behind so much that we missed the final locations on the way back to Westbourne Park tube station, but it was still an enjoyable day out nevertheless. We then headed to the Queen's Head for my second roast of the day (even nicer than the first one), and despite Sam's wind problem that evening it didn't put me off my dinner! We said goodbye to some of the lads here and then the rest of us headed off to the Hammersmith Ram for a final couple of jars before it was, sadly, all over until next year Thanks to everyone who attended; we even had a new member turn up, but I can't remember his name unfortunately. Special thanks is always reserved for our guvnor Gene Hunt, as these meets wouldn't exist without his hard work and massive effort in putting them together Until we meet again... Cheers Vi

Another cracking day out in the smoke. On the way up in the morning it was pretty heavy rain and I thought that's it the day is going to be a wash out like the weather peeps forecast but lo and behold luck was once again on our side. How do we do it eh? After a decent brekkie we were on our way and after meeting with the rest of the squad it was a hop on a tube to one location after another and many many bonus locations too as we walked around . I really enjoy the walking tours as they give us a chance to have a chat and a catch up and there's no parking to panic about. A nice leisurely lunch break was had and then on to more and more locations and finishing up at the Queens bonce for a nice meal. Big big thanks to Gene for organising another superb day out, we live for these things. These meets run like clockwork because of all the effort you put in mate, before, on the day and behind the scenes. Thank you. We all appreciate it so much. Thanks also to Steve Austin for the printed booklet. Such a great addition to the day. Thanks for taking your time to do them for us all. Also good to see everyone again and a new face too. We've all become like old friends now thanks to these meets. See you all again in 6 months. So there you have it, another great meet to add to the list and some brilliant Steptoe locations we'd never would have ever seen without Genes brilliance. Thanks again mate. Until the next adventure. BG.

Steptoeland - what a fantastic meet this was! I thoroughly enjoyed joining the Saturday pre-meet squad for a 1970s themed tour of various pubs in London, which was expertly put together by Gene. We started off at the legendary Warrington in Maida Vale, this was followed by a trip to West Hampstead to visit a great 1970s style bar called Bobby Fitzpatrick. We then headed down to The Lamb Tavern in Leadenhall Market, this was featured in the 1975 John Wayne film Brannigan. Gene then took us round the corner to a building and street that featured in the opening credits of The Professionals, this was at Trinity Square near Tower Hill tube station. We then rounded off the evening at The Seven Stars in Carey Street. All in all a most enjoyable way to start the weekend. Thanks Gene! Sunday morning arrived and we had an interesting walk taking in Steptoe locations such as Harold falling asleep on the cart, and into the Pickfords van and Albert’s funeral route. The route was interesting as some buildings had totally been redeveloped and Gene had done an astounding amount of research to piece together the route Kensal Green Cemetery was very interesting, so much had been filmed here not just Steptoe and Gene had a thorough knowledge of where filming had taken place for numerous film and TV shows, again testament to the countless hours of research he puts into every meet Del Boy did a fantastic reenactment of Harold running out of the taxi – well done Del! The final part of the meet was as enjoyable as the others, Oil Drum Lane and Trellick Tower really stood out to me as well as some additional Sweeney locations. Huge thanks to Gene for organising a wonderful weekend, I know he had visited London on at least two occasions to research aspects of the route/locations and his dedication really paid off with a meet that ran like clockwork, as they always do! Well done Gene! - We would literally be lost without you! Thanks also to Steve Austin for putting together the wonderful screen-grabs booklets It’s always nice to catch up with everyone, great company and lots of good natured banter all day long! I will post some photos during the next few days. Looking forward to April The Saint

Meet 009 was great from start to finish, with a wide range of locations from Steptoe and Son, Villain, The Professionals and The Sweeney that came thick and fast throughout the whole day.
Although the forecasts had suggested a wet and miserable day, it turned out to be perfect location visiting weather with the only wet stuff being the pints of Proper Job and Guiness consumed at lunch time.
A thoroughly enjoyable day with some great locations, especially the Hard Men and Bait locations towards the end. Cheers Steve Austin for the Photo Books and to Gene for arranging yet another great weekend, the efforts made really are appreciated, and everyone who attended and made the day one to be remembered.

So annoyed I missed this event last weekend - if only I had found this forum sooner, it would have been right up my street. When is the next one planned?
Also got me wondering is there a Google Maps Map or similar location map for 70's TV shows? (Sweeney especially) thanks in advance!

Apologies for not getting on sooner had a mad busy couple of days back to work... take a day off, and all that.
Once again thanks to Gene for a brilliant weekend, one of our best and we’ve certainly had a fair few of those over the years too.
I’ve tried not to look at the other posts to give my own thoughts on the weekend and thought I’d do Part 1 now covering the Saturday shenanigans and all that.
Travelled over from Euston with Gene, Del and John Steed to The Warrington, Maida Vale to meet up with The Saint, Windy, Mickyosan, Get Carter, Perfect Pseudonym, Peter Piccard and Vienna. Still a lovely boozer with some great history not only from The Sweeney, if perhaps a little care-warn (note to landlords) but the Guinness/beer was a tidy drop and not like that pint of sludge I had last year. Headed to our billet in Hammersmith before taking on the Saturday meet with a series of bars and Gene’s mystery locations too.
From there we hit the Underground and Hampstead for one of The Saint’s recent finds a 70’s themed bar Bobby Fitzpatrick. An interesting time tunnel indeed with some (generally) good sounds and not too much on the cheesy side either. A wee mishap with one of our squad saw us get some free food/drink out the deal too which isn’t bad and generally it’s worth a trip to see if you like all things 70’s/80’s too.
Some locations now and off to Leadenhall Market from Branningan and the Lamb Tavern. Worth the trip there for the pub alone and surprised me how much that area had changed and become more busy these days… used to be like a ghost town around there a few years earlier. After that and a few beers we went to nearby Trinity Square the scene of The Professionals opening titles. Perhaps because or in-spite of a few jars I decided to do the Cowley re-enactment although I’m not so sure the lookalikes for Bodie and Doyle were up to the job if I’m being honest!
Back on the trail to The Seven Stars in Carey Street another great pub generally around the Royal Courts of Justice and also scene of Harold’s divorce and the ‘Orse getting ticketed by the Traffic Warden in the Steptoe film too!
As a few of our members turned in for the night a few of us staying in Hammersmith went back for a night cap at The Hammersmith Ram in King Street and the banter and laughs all day were spot on and having the Saturday certainly makes a weekender of everything and set’s everything up nicely. I know and appreciate everyone’s not a drinker but you don’t have to be to enjoy the Saturday meet up and if anyone is thinking of doing it for next time I’d fully recommend it as it eases us nicely into the meet for Sunday and we can all have a little relax, laugh and chat too before the big one as well.
Once again Big thanks to Gene for putting the Saturday itinerary together, The Saint and Del for finding Bobby Fitzpatrick and to all of the lads who turned out for having a bit of a laugh, chat and nice drink before the Saturday too.
End of Part 1 – Part 2 The Sunday coming up soon!

Also got me wondering is there a Google Maps Map or similar location map for 70's TV shows? (Sweeney especially) thanks in advance! We have two meets each year, one in April and one in October. The films and/or TV series covered vary as do the locations. Whilst we've done some in London we've also been to Windsor (Carry On films), Newcastle (Get Carter, Likely Lads, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet), Nottingham (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet).
Keep a watch out for announcements, they are posted with plenty of notice so you'll be able to sign up to join us. As yet we have no plans for subject or location for the next meet but whatever or wherever you'll be certain of a good day or two out.
As regards Sweeney locations, all will become clear when you gain access to The Sweeney section in full. Gene has done an astounding job of collating all locations by episode and including Google or Bing links for the 'Now' views. It is a far cry from the list that was peddled on the TV Lounge.
Sam.

What a fantastic meet as always! These weekends seem to get better and better! Saturday was a great way to start off with a few pre-meet public drinking houses. They were all great but the highlight was Bobby Fitzpatrick, a fantastic 70's themed bar …. what a gem! Sunday was another great day with much better weather than forecasted. These walkabout meets really are a great way to cover the locations as it gives everyone a chance to talk to the rest of the group. The day just flew by, I can't believe how quick it went. The lunch break was very relaxed and a chance to recharge for the afternoon locations. I would really struggle to pick my favourite location of the day as there were so many fantastic locations. The day was nicely rounded off with a lovely roast dinner and a couple of pints. Massive thanks to Gene Hunt as always for the endless hours of research and planning that goes into these meets. They really are worked out with military precision. Thanks very much mate Thanks also to Steve Austin for the excellent screen grab booklets. They make a great souvenir of the day to keep. Finally, thanks to everyone who attended and collectively made it the fantastic day/weekend that it was. Cheers all! Steed
