It’s a film on at 7 pm today on Talking Pictures on Sky.
Short documentary with Charles Hawtrey.
Might be worth a look.

Actually, very bizarre except for the last few minutes.

I’ve just bought myself an MZ TS250 motorcycle. This bike has no two stroke oil pump and the oil is pre mixed in the tank. The film made interesting viewing and I can remember my Dad using a pre mix petrol pump in the late 1970s. Incidentally, I bought myself a pre mix cup with measurements on it to calculate the correct amount of oil to place in the petrol tank, before shaking the bike from side to side to mix it in! 😁

I liked the explanation of the two stroke petrol pump in the last bit.
Hand operated and free standing, that would be nicked in 5 minutes these days.

My first two bikes were two-strokes: a Suzuki AP50 and Suzuki TS185 both shown in the photo: Both had separate tanks and pumps for the two stroke oil and ran okay. I did have one occasion on the 185 when the two stroke oil ran out and the bike seized just as I was leaning over at about 65mph on a bend in the wet on my way into Swansea. The back wheel locked up and I found myself riding sideways speedway style towards the central reservation. Thankfully quick reactions to pull the clutch in meant the wheel started turning again and I coasted to the nearside without further issue - not even a need for the laundry! The engine seize was only short lived until it cooled down and the next garage was only a short push for few hundred yards so another bottle of two stroke oil and I was on my way again. Since then my only other two-stroke was a motocross bike that was a premix so no further incidents however the one thing that two strokes had that no other vehicle gave is the characteristic smell of Castrol R. Those that know the smell it would understand. Sam.
