I was unaware until this evening that John Ronane, who played "Red" in the Sweeney episode "Trust Red" passed away 3 months ago on May 15th at the age of 85.
Ronane lived in Illinois with his wife and was the father of 4 children.
RIP John.

That's a shame Gene, sad to hear that. Thanks Red.

That's sad and surprising news. I hadn't seen John on tv for years. I wonder if he continued his career in America ? John was never off the telly at one time. I remember him being in loads of plays and things.
a sad loss.
RIP John.

He had a great life, didn't he? Such a versatile actor. He even got to work with the lovely Jenny Agutter in A War Of Children. RIP

It mentions he taught acting at Illinois University, Derrick O'Connor was another Sweeney actor who taught acting in the US, in San Francisco I think.
RIP John

Sad news
He certainly had a long and varied career and I'm sure that our appreciation of his appearance in Trust Red is mirrored by many others for his work.
R.I.P. "Red"

RIP John, I know Trust Red is a bit of a Marmite episode for some but it was certainly interesting and on the whole it's one I quite enjoy too.
Thanks for your contribution to film and TV John.

RIP John Ronane,
He also appeared in a Persuaders episode as the main villain (the one where Danny Wilde is trying to renovate a cottage) and was one of a gang of four, future Sweeney Villains in a Department S episode. Sounds like he had a busy acting career and a good innings, always sad to hear of another actor from the older days passing - his performance as Red certainly had depth.

John also had a part in Trevor Preston's Fox too.
