I remember enjoying some of the Return of the Saint episodes first time round when it first was on TV late 1978/early 79. But didn't get to see a few more till it was repeated as Vienna says, Summer 1980 and then a few more in about 1983.
Always particularly preferred the British filming locations episodes.
I bought the Australian release Umbrella DVD box set in 2005 which has a couple episodes with commentary, from Ian Ogilvy and producer Bob Baker.
Also had the first ROTS annual for 1979!
A location is even given out by Jaz Wiseman (moderator) of where Templar's house is (outside scenes). It is near Sloane Square underground station, so I took a walk down there one day when I was off work just after Christmas Dec 2005!

I re-watched my box set a couple of months back and really enjoyed it (again!), it's so well made and well worth a look. It might look and feel a bit corny here and there, but it's stood the test of time better than many TV shows of the same period. The episodes shot abroad are my favourites, it's usually the other way round for me with some of the older ITC stuff where the UK shot episodes are often my favourites. Oh, and that white XJ-S V12.... what a car.... Villain

Yes I would agree Villain that the episodes set abroad are some of the best, especially 'Duel in Venice' which is my favourite and the best, IMO, from the whole series.

I remember watching it on a family holiday during the cool, wet summer of 1980. They would have been repeats and I think it was a Saturday teatime too Vi So my memory did serve me correct. Shame it isn't like that with my Pin Number, Burglar Alarm code, where I put my car keys etc.....
Going to invest in the box set DVDs I think!
Someone mentioned the 'Umbrella' releases - I heard somewhere that these releases features more bonus material (Stills, Outtakes etc) than any Network Releases. I know this was a topic of conversation elsewhere on Retro TV - and the lack of bonus stuff.

Good idea Sparky! I too have heard the Umbrella releases have more extras, but I believe the Network DVDs have better sound and picture quality from reading one or two reviews online. Vi

I seem to remember watching these when originally broadcast in 78, they were on a Sunday evening in the Anglia region.
I did like that white XJS as well.
It had a phone in it!

I've been watching it here & there on Forces TV, Simon Templar does more birding than Bill Oddie, every episode he seems to have at least two on the boil. I find Ian Ogilvy's Saint a bit on the dull side, he plays it straight without the self deprecating eyebrow raising & cheesy one liners associated with this type of character.
Here he is talking about the show on The One Show-
