Does anyone have any favourite title sequences?
Special Branch (1972-1974 series) Sweeney (1975-1977 series) - I much preferred the blue tinted titles Southbank Show (1978-1980 titles) - I loved the animation work on these. Only Fools and Horses - (changing these would have been like the Ravens leaving the tower) Auf Pet (1983/4 series - the Sealink ferry reminded me of going on holiday!) Minder (1979-1989 series) - nuff said! The Avengers (Diana Rigg era) Play For Today (1970-1976) edited stills from various Plays of that series UFO World of Sport (With the aeroplane and banner) Top of the Pops (the first colour ones from around 1970) - but with the scary animated Jimmy Saville cut off the end Sale of the Century (where else can you see a programme that makes such a big thing of being made in Norwich....the UK) Price is Right (1984 version with Leslie Crowther) Batman (60s TV series with Adam West) 3-2-1 (the original 1978 to whenever titles) with the cartoon Dusty Bin Bullseye (the original, extended 1981 titles - currently on showing on Challenge!) ATV-Today (The 1976 striped version) - strictly for midlands ATV viewers of the later 70s Format V (1978 local ATV documentary series) loved the freaky Kaliedoscope news clips World in Action (the original 70s one) Grandstand (80s version)
That's a few of mine anyway....

Good shouts on Porridge and The Likely Lads. I loved the Newcastle locations and the great theme tune. The opening and closing credits for The Sweeney were clever in their contrast. The opening one was punchy and fast moving, as the squad chased the villains in the Jag, as if it was the start of a full day! The end one's were quiet and reflective as if it had been a long hard day and I liked the alternative arrangement of the theme, to reflect this

Ooh lets see........ well I won't retype the majority of the ones already listed as I take that as a given I'd agree they were among some of my fav's but I'd like to include a few more corkers;
Starsky and Hutch (2nd series music - the most well known theme)
The Streets of San Francisco
The New Avengers (late 70's series)
The Original Saint series (60's series)
Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)

There's a good few program title sequences that are memorable, most of which have been mentioned already but there's one title sequence that stands out for me. Not only does it take me back to my wonderful childhood in the 60's and 70's but also back to when our kids were young in the early 90's and the entire series was repeated. That too was a magical time with our three year old twins. To this day I find the whole orchestral arrangement of it stirring and brings all manner of emotions not least the child in me:
Sam.

I rather like the closing theme tune to the 1980s TV series Howards' Way.
Used from series 3 onwards, the tune is called Barracuda and was composed by Simon May, it's like a more up-tempo version of the original Howards' Way theme.
