Just seen it myself Gene, sad news.
Niki is up there with the top greats of F1 throughout the decades not only winning in arguably the most dangerous era of the sport, which almost cost him his life at the horrific crash at the Nurburgring but also coming back with McLaren and beating a coming to prime Alain Prost to the WDC in 1984 when many thought he couldn't.
Some of Mercedes current success and legacy is down to the work Lauda put in with Toto Wolff in recent years and although the current F1 season may be considered sterile and boring it's thanks to the work of Niki, Wolff and others like Ross Brawn who have enabled Mercedes to become the force they are at the moment and break the Ferrari/McLaren/Williams old guard who used to dominate the sport in the past.
RIP Niki thanks for your effort, skill and legacy to F1 over the years. This is a nice tribute to him.

The only time I ever took any notice of, or interest in, F1 was 1976 when he did battle with James Hunt. His comeback after that crash was incredible in just a few weeks. Sad news.

Very, very sad news.
I have a massive amount of respect for Niki, not only for his comeback after nearly losing his life in 1976 but also for the fact that he was a great ambassador for F1 and could be trusted to speak his mind and do what was right for the sport. The world would be a far better place if there were more like him and his integrity.
R.I.P. Niki

Very sad news of the loss of one of the greats of Formula 1, a strong willed character to get back in the cockpit after 40 odd days after that horrific accident which nearly cost him his life in 1976. A rivalry which became a great friendship in the end with James Hunt, and he never left F1 whilst still involved with the sport to the final year of his life, dedication indeed.
Agree with the earlier comments too - RIP Niki

So sad to hear of the loss of Niki Lauda. His skill, determination, intelligence and passion for racing set him apart from many. I am glad that the film 'Rush' was made as it brought his story to many younger people who had no idea of the story of his achievements. RIP Niki Lauda.
