Just to be clear, this thread wasnt intended to replace room 101,its a kind of halfway stage to it. Room 101 is for things you hate and really grind your gears, things you dont get are things which leave you baffled as to why they are popular and why people like them, because you cant understand the reason why.
For example, this bloke i used to work with fancied himself as a comic, he used to put silly masks and hats on and do Norman Wisdom impressions. A few people in the office thought he was hilarious, i just thought he was a bit of a tool.

Good point - many of the entries on my list are certainly Room 101 material. Though - with Mr Kyle; I don't understand what the entire attraction is, to watching two low lifes argue over who's been bedding who while the audience sit there "Wooing" and "Booing" it's like a cross between a game show and Pantomime.
I am sure my list is much longer!
One I did miss off was Internet Trolls and Keyboard Warriors.
Possibly - they are Room 101 additions too.

This could be a borderline Room 101 one for me but Downton Abbey what is the attraction of it?
Written by a toff wannabe (Julian Fellowes) all it really seems to me is a bunch of toff idiots lording it over a bunch of subservient slave/servants who are happy with this status quo, and happy for themselves to continue to be kept 'down below'! Storyline wise it's Exhibit A out of the period drama manual for dummies generally dumb rich bint meets dumb/irksome rich bloke with some kind of trial and tribulation the end.
Reckon Fellowes ulterior motive is to have those 'good old days' (sic) back and I see nothing here which shows how we as a society/nation have progressed nor how we should progress?
It's now been made into a sodding film too we wont hear the last of for the immediate future and like many of these nostalgia led British period drama's/films they show a image of Britain it's mainly American audiences want us too be like when the reality of Britain now is very VERY different.
Call the Midwife is similarly putrid that I can't stand everything about that either. I just don't get either and yep these really should perhaps be in Room 101 for me.
Maybe some of the Ken Loach and John McKenzie stuff I like could raise similar feelings amongst fans of this stuff but just seems to me since the BBC made that Pride and Prejudice tosh in 1996 the period-led stuff is all we're really offering in terms of British television drama with maybe a few odd exceptions.
Give me a Sweeney repeat a thousand times over any of this tosh any day!

You seem to know a fair bit about these programs Dirty, something you'd like to share? Annie and our daughters watched Downton for years. It got to a point one Christmas Day that while they were glued to that, our son and I went to the pub as soon as it started. The program only lasted two hours but we stayed at the pub for four. Good job it was within walking distance! Sam.

No disrespect to fans of these shows but just don't like their identikit sugar coated style/view of the past when rammed down our throats a bit tiresome.

This is my "quick how to" guide to making such a costume drama - you will need:
A Big Stately home (Listed) where every US Tourist will visit and turn into a shrine. A toffy nosed writer who sniffs at the "working class" reprebate crew.
A Couple of toffy nosed actors & actresses in Top Hats, and Dresses A Load of extras in Top Hats and big sideburns
A horse & carriage (crucial)
A Scene lit with candles, but masses of light flooding through the window. An exterior scene with a man in a top hat running across the front lawn shouting "Take that you bounder...." A Pretty girl in a big dress looking sultry over her left shoulder Some tinkly piano music A grumpy old Victorian Man or Woman who sits in a large room moaning A couple of bawdy servents
There you go.....
An exterior scene

Good points on Downton Abbey type stuff. Agree, its snobbish types wanting to go back to the 19th century when working class oiks knew their place. We only progressed as a society in the 35 or so years after world war 2 imo, then after a bit of levelling out, started regressing again. The Daily Mail likes Downton Abbey by the way.. .. Getting towards Room 101 at this point!

Good thinking/decision Sam! No disrespect to fans of these shows but just don't like their identikit sugar coated style/view of the past when rammed down our throats a bit tiresome. Same with all this homosexuality, I don't like that rammed down my throat either.
