Sad news. Yes he was certainly a Marmite character but I thought he was a brilliantly funny comedian despite whatever flaws in his off-stage life. I recall seeing him on The Comedians and preferring him to many of the other stand-ups, some of which I thought shouldn't even have bothered appearing. Annie and I saw Freddie Starr's live stage show at Blazers in Windsor on two occasions back in the 80's and were in hysterics each time. R.I.P. Freddie

Very sad news...
He was HUGE yet, in my opinion could have been even huger (his role in The Squeeze shows us he could have been a great film star)!!!
It was his zany, carefree madness that probably cost him dearly in later years as I fear nobody could ever trust that what he said or did was real...
Anyhow, whatever way you flip it this is a very sad loss!
RIP Freddie, all the hamsters are safe now...

I was only watching Freddie last night in a clip from a film he made in 1957 'Violent Playground' starring Stanley Baker. He was a very funny guy in his prime.
RIP Freddie.

Yes, he was funny when he was at his best. Pity he slid into obscurity.
RIP Freddie

RIP Freddie, I well remember his madcap antics on his comedy shows which creased me up as a teenager. Shame things went a bit melancholy for him towards the end. I agree his role in The Squeeze showed there was more to him than comedy.
