Noticed in the Metro this morning that TV Presenter Magenta Devine has died aged 61.

Could take her or leave her but she was certainly an interesting character to emerge from the mid-80's with shows like Network 7 and Reportage (Def II) and the Rough Guides shows were on the whole pretty good. RIP Magenta.

Very sad news. Magenta was part of a new media style that looked very cool, stylish and experimental at the time. And she did it all without ever taking her sunglasses off.
Immortalised by the Boomtown Rats in She's So Modern: Magenta is the best She really makes me laugh She's always trying her impressions She wants to be a photograph

RIP Magenta, indeed one of the faces around a lot in the mid to late 80's, and her rough guide travel programmes were like the "new breed", making the earlier travel shows (presented by the likes of Judith Chalmers) looking like they were stuck in earlier decades.
Rough guide were down to earth and a bit more in your face/bohemian with previously uncovered locations, and possibly could have started off the "student gone travelling in a gap year" phenomenon with the types of advice given on accomodation and places profiled.
Didn't she have something to do with managing 80's synth pop group Sigue Sigue Sputnik?
