I was just wondering and got an idea for increase in members and usage on the board I know i haven't spent as much time as i would like . But what about a concerted recruitment and awareness week to celebrate almost 4 years. Like leaving messages on twitter Facebook and other sites or just like mention to other like minded people.

Hi Davy, We have been promoting 4:3tv on Facebook and Twitter for a few years now. 4:3tv has it's own Twitter page and it's own Facebook Group page where some threads and events are promoted every so often. This is also done on my private Twitter and Facebook pages. There was a thread highlighting this some time ago when members were urged to spread the word, though little came of it. It's great that you've given this some thought and we really appreciate it so for future reference here is a little guide in how any member can spread the word about 4:3tv and the things we talk about on here. Firstly, if you find a thread that interests you and you feel like sharing it on Twitter of Facebook, simply follow these guidelines: - Go to the thread you like
- Go to the first post in that thread
- just above the post you'll see an "Actions" button - click it
- Go to "Share Thread"
- Select from the list of Twitter / Facebook / Google+ etc
- A new page will open with a ready made post for Twitter or Facebook etc
- Submit the post - job done!
Thanks again Davy

Good idea. I have mentioned 4:3 to a guy on another forum I used to go on and he has registered, don't think he's posted as yet.

It's good to know you can share certain threads. I wasn't sure if this was allowed or the procedure for doing it.
Thank you Gene for once more giving us the info on this, also thank you Davy.
Charles.

I do follow the 43 twitter account Guv but haven't seen anything on there for a while. I agree with Charles I wasn't aware you could share posts and threads in the way you outlined above. Thats a really good feature and one I'll try and make use of now. I probably won't link anything on facebook though. Have to say I loathe that bloody site. Too much of an invasion of privacy.

I generally agree with you regards Facebook Raymondo but as the 43tv page is not a singular identity account it can be useful in promoting the forum. It would be great if those people who do have accounts on FB - and do follow the 43tv page, if they could share any posts from our page on to their timeline. That's how these things work.
One other thing to be aware of is when any member does share a thread or post from 43tv, to remember that certain areas of 43tv are restricted access so sharing a link to those threads or posts will result in whoever clicks the links not being able to access the content until they join the forum or/and attain the required minimum post count to unlock the restricted sections.
For instance, sharing on of the Location Report threads. They are only accessible to members with a post count of at least 20. This still has an effect though as it may encourage people to join and see what they are missing...
Bottom line is though, our ethos has not changed since day 1. We have no interest in a huge membership tally. The important factor is that whoever does join, contributes to the discussion. Quality not quantity. A certain forum that shall remain nameless prided itself on having few thousand members. What is the point when only 10 of them contribute? The same registration process is in place for 43tv as it was right from the start where anyone who registers has to answer a few simple questions before we activate the account. The fact is that as you can see, we have 90 members at the moment. If we didn't have the activation system in place, the membership would now be in excess of 400. It's amazing how many people register and then simply do not respond to the required questions - which leads to their application being rejected.
It's worked a treat for the first 4 years..
Gene.

Gene, I'm not on Facebook that much as I'm not really a fan of it, but I do find it useful at times. However, l'll share posts I see from 4:3tv onto my timeline when I come across them. Anything to promote the forum is a very good idea. Vi

We've had a few new members Davy, with some joining after reading about us on Facebook. However, a number of those who took the time to join, never even logged in or revisited after their account was approved. Quite why they bother to register if they don't intend to come back remains a mystery to both myself and Sam. Their accounts have been deleted in accordance with the forum rules set out from the start.
As ever, our ethos hasn't changed and we are only interested in having members who get involved and contribute to the forum. Not only in The Sweeney section but in any area of the forum. I've seen some of the Facebook groups and they have staggering member numbers, but one wonders what percentage of those contribute to their discussion.
It's well documented on here and in particularly in the Forum Rules section that inactive accounts will automatically fall into an "AWOL" group where certain areas of the forum remain out of bounds. Any member who finds themselves placed into the AWOL group has only to log in and request assistance in being reinstated. If their request in genuine, we will happily reinstate them. However, if it becomes a regular occurrence then the request may be rejected.
We (all of us as members) have worked hard to build a fantastic resource for everyone to view and our requirements from all members are a step to ensure that this resource grows and grows rather than fade away as many forums have in the past.
By coincidence I have just published the 4:3tv analytics figures in our Moderator section. They show a considerable increase in traffic since the start of the year. The biggest increase since we started in 2015. It shows that we are ranking very highly in web searches & that we are drawing attention from social media platforms. These figures are very comprehensive and are very accurate, and above all, show that we are a continuing success.
Thank you to all members.
