True Del You could easily watch hours of crap on some channels and wonder where did that go etc. Is it a coincidence it's all happened with the rise of Sky?

Evening all, and yes I was very pleased to attend this enjoyable evening and occassion, after getting a ticket a bit later which meant I was 6 rows behind, Dirty, Del and Saint, but I managed to catch up with in the break. After getting a meal at the nearby Pizza Express I arrived in time and the Prince Charles is another cinema which shows old classics at certain times which is great. As well as Blade Runner, they've got The Italian Job tomorrow night.
I very much enjoyed those 2 early Likely Lads eps and superb that they were found and restored after all these years and they are now around for a new audience to enjoy.
The Q & A with Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais was a very interesting insight to their careers, how they got into writing and then how they got The Likely Lads off the ground. Some interesting points made and some mostly very good questions from the audience. Notably one chap had travelled down from the North East and wore his Newcastle football top and was able to thank the guests in person for one of them writing back to him after he'd originally written to them a number of years ago as a fan! It was much appreciated of Dick and Ian to give up some of their spare to time for the evening whilst they were in the UK (They reside in the states nowadays).
Some other points about how the surnames for the characters came about, like Bob's sounded Northern (Ferris) and Terry's came from what the coal miners were also called. Another point was a member of the audience revealed that the singer of the films them was a friend of his (Tony ?? the surname escapes me) and not as possibly thought, Mike Hugg of Manfred Mann although he wrote and arranged the tune I believe. The themes singer was apparently the voice of other TV themes work. The lyrics of the TV series for WHTTLL were from Ian La Frenais though but I'm unsure about the film.
And then onto the film itself which I never grow tired of watching but this was a new experience seeing it on the big screen fully restored and uncut, then laughing with the audience at the lines - absolute classic some of them! I actually didn't realise how funny the scenes and lines could be, before so it was great to appreciate it in a new light! And then viewing the scenes and thinking to myself (We went there, we went there.....)
As Del has said, you get the experience of what it could have been like at your local pictures in 1976.
Shame only 20 autographed Blue Rays could be made available which soon went, as the people at the back made a bee line for them at the recess but the evening was well attended and appreciated.
A memorable evening and worth travelling down from Luton for and glad I went. Always good to see fellow squad members again too!

Only managed to get a couple of smudges and i couldn't get Dick Clement before he left the stage. The Prince Charles Cinema is unusual in that the front row seating is the highest and it slopes downwards going back. This doesn't work as well IMO. Comfy seating though along with good picture and sound. Dirty Epic seems to be hypnotised. Maybe just admiring Terry's bird Christine Saint was there ... Ian La Frenais points at an audience member who recited a funny story and brought a letter Ian wrote to him in 1995

A good read and interview Del quite similar to what the lads discussed at the Q&A. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I thought the content was similar to the Q.A with the two writers.
