Our recent debates on Vettel's struggles were echoed on the F1 coverage on TV. The pundits in particular Mark Webber had an interesting take on matters. Mark's opinion was that Seb has been affected by the way the cars are these days after recent rule changes compared to the way they were when winning his four championships. It does seem to fit

Vettel did say when while still in the car after it broke down "Bring back the f***ing V12's"

He could have added “and great mistake-free racing”!

I agree with him but must admit I loved the V10 era too.

He could have added “and great mistake-free racing”! This season has definitely been a low for him. That track re-entry at Monza was bad.

It does seem to fit I saw that interview with Webber to Del and agree quite a lot with what Mark had to say too. It’s interesting that Seb’s winning streak ended during the Hybrid era as even his last season with Red Bull he looked a bit uncomfortable with the car and not as confident and in control as he had it during 2010-13. Also Ricciardo seemed to adapt better to the Hybrid’s than Vettel and generally was out performing him similarly to what Leclerc’s doing now at Ferrari. I do agree with what he said about bringing back the V12’s mind! Lewis Hamilton/Mercedes seem to have benefited most from the Hybrid era. It’s interesting that neither were that successful in the pervious KERS/diffuser cars from the 2009-13 period in comparison to Vettel, Alonso, Webber, Button and even to a lesser extent Barrichello who seemed more comfortable with that set up than Lewis did with McLaren or the Mercedes team generally – especially Schumacher with his now infamous ‘comeback’. You could say they were both the equivalents of say a driver like Ricciardo/Hulkenberg at Renault or that team generally now. That’s not denigrating what Hamilton has achieved in the last 5 or so years with sporadic challenges from Rosberg and Vettel as he’s risen his game and adapted well to these new rules and all good/great drivers have that ability to adapt to rule changes and take advantage of their opportunities too. The 2021 rule changes may benefit some teams/drivers and not others although there seems to be a bit of a watering down recently of what the FIA/change makers wanted and what teams will accept in order to preserve the status quo sadly. One thing though I don’t think reverse grids/sprint races etc. are a way to go with F1, yes they work and work well in other categories like the BTCC etc. but for me that doesn’t mean it’ll work in F1 where the consistently best driver should run at the front, might mean boring processional races but it’s how it should be rather than manufacturing the racing etc.

Had hoped to post something about the state of progress at Suzuka but looks like Quali's off until Sunday due to Typhoon Hagibis.

Hope it doesn't affect or postpone the race?
