As it’s that time of year, and you cant move for them, which ones do you like and which ones are you sick of?
The good, for me, is s fairly short list, as these are the only ones I actually like to listen to:
Greg Lake, I believe in Father Christmas. IMO the best one ever. Jonah Lewie, Stop the Cavalry Maybe A Spaceman came Travelling The Pogues and Kirsty Mccoll was also one, but it’s starting to get overplayed and move into the next category:
Ones that you liked at first, or tolerate, bit you’ve heard them so many times that you’re sick of
Slade, Wizzard, Wham, Maria Carey, Elton John
Which brings us to the ones I can’t stand:
Band Aid (good cause, but an awful dirge) Anything by Cliff Richard and the worst one ever, Paul McCartney Wonderful Christmas Time!

The Greg Lake song is very good. One of my favourites is 'A Winter's Tale' written by Mike Batt & sung by David Essex. Bing Crosby & David Bowie 'Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth'. 'When A Child Is Born' Johnny Mathis, 'Mary's Boy Child' Boney M.
For years we would play The Spinners ( folk group from Liverpool in case anyone doesn't know them ) live Christmas album 'Sing Out Shout With Joy' on Christmas Day until that sad day when the record player was replaced by a CD system.
Slade, although it's a great song, does get tiresome as does Wizzard. Band Aid I never really liked. Lennon's 'War Is Over' is a great song but I find it a little depressing, I actually like McCartney's song, I even like the Frog Chorus!

Glad it's not just me who like the Frog Chorus I too like Lennon & McCartney's yuletide offerings but the pedant in me always cringes a little at the lines "another year over and a new one just begun" (it hasn't unless he's referring to the solstice) and "The choir of children sing their song , they practiced all year long", really? All year? Not a Christmas song per se but I remember Mull of Kintyre being a Christmas #1, say what you like about it but it's a massive seller. December Song (George Michael) is one that doesn't get much of a mention but I like it.

The Frogs Chorus I can tolerate, however, Wonderful Christmas Time I can not!

The Frogs Chorus I can tolerate, however, Wonderful Christmas Time I can not! Ah but the later does use a Moog Synth Carty. Can't say I'm bothered either way with both of them but can definitely leave both of them alone. Hardly Day in the Life are they?

No real middle ground with Macca I never thought. When he was good, he was excellent, Jet, Band on the Run, What the Man Said, Silly Love songs, and his Wings at the Speed of sound album was great.
Conversley, his bad stuff was absolutely dire.

It's funny though as some years seem to play to death certain Christmas songs this year it seems to be Fairytale of New York - (3 times in one day? Come one! )and Slade and the Elton John one and the Mariah Carey one but haven't heard Jonah Louis anywhere yet - that's my fave!
Another previous Christmas, I never heard Slade anywhere but it's back to normal this year!
Last years "Christmas Eve Eve" Saturday night, I was at pub for a Chrimbo themed Ska/Mod night and the DJ I know pretty well, was playing a reggaeised version of George Michael's "Last Christmas" - which didn't necessarily go down well with all the former Skinheads! Lol! But Judge Dread's "Christmas in Dreadland" did!!! Lol!

The Greedy Bas*ards ( Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham & Brian Downey from Thin Lizzy, Steve Jones & Paul Cook from Sex Pistols ) 'A Merry Jingle' medley from 1979 is another good one. I read that when they appeared on Top Of The Pops Jimmy Savile was presenting & Steve Jones apparently drove Savile to distraction by constantly making Savile's signature 'oooohhhhh' yodel. The B side 'A Merry Jangle' & is 'A Merry Jingle' played backwards. <iframe width="10.579999999999984" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.58px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 103px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_31762461" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.579999999999984" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.58px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 103px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_80067141" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.579999999999984" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.58px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 390px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_60034918" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.579999999999984" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.58px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 390px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_63814675" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Great thread. I'm going to play some of these and come back. That was 14 hours ago and still not back ! That's a lot of Christmas songs you're playing. Someone at work set up Christmas music to play in the office. It's nice the first time you hear it but the next day, and the next day and the next day... I was trying to write emails and I found I was singing the words to myself in my mind (and I couldn't stop it). I had to ask her to turn them off. Hmm now I'm the one who 'spoilt' the Christmas spirit.
