Synonymous with BBC News, but I also remember his distinct voice from the Mary Mungo & Midge cartoons as a kid.

Also remember him from the Proms, one of those comforting & urbane broadcasters that seemed to disappear from tv in the late 80s.

If it is possible for a child to have a favourite news reader, then mine was Richard Baker. He also had exemplary gymnastic skills which he once showcased on the Morecambe and Wise Christmas show.

Didn't Richard also present The Festival Of Rememberance every November on BBC1? He also did programmes for Radio 2.
Richard is one of the earliest Newsreaders I can remember, and I'm glad he lived to such a good old age.

RIP Richard, a wonderful innings. I too also remember him well as one of the earliest newsreaders I can remember, one of the old school BBC newsreaders.
