Hand on heart I can quite honestly say that I never watched any of them. I do recall one year during the lead-up to it that the English entry was shown beforehand on something such as The Wogan Show - not that I can recall which one it was - and thinking that there's no way on Earth that they were in with a shout.
Apart from the few mentioned successes most of the winners have paled into obscurity anyway.
Sam.

Thanks Arthur, I first thought it was the embarrassingly bad Scooch who got the NUL!

I find it annoying that most of the contestant sing their numbers in our language rather than their own respective national ones. They then usually give us very low points every year.

Wogan seemed to believe that there was a lot of tactical voting going on, there was a feeling post the Iraq invasion that nobody liked the UK. I think as a fair contest it's been kaput for a long time.

Apparently, the UK got NIL points last night!
Why do we still bother with this rubbish?

Apparently, the UK got NIL points last night! Why do we still bother with this rubbish? The mind boggles. I used to watch it on the odd occasion when Wogan hosted it - purely for the entertainment that Wogan himself provided with his comments about the various acts. Certainly not for the music. A bit like the voting audience, who's votes have little or nothing to do with the music either. Gene.

Apparently, the UK got NIL points last night! Why do we still bother with this rubbish? I haven't watched it since Wogan presented it. And then was in total agreement with Wogan that the whole thing was political.
At one point, we (the public) also chose the song to represent us. I gather these days, the BBC choose it?
Think we're only really wanted in the competition for our financial contribution.

I've watched it on and off since the 70s. I gave up after the 2018 contest when I thought our entry from SuRie, who recovered well from a nutcase protester grabbing her mic during the performance, was quite a decent song. When the winner was a girl who rapped and made dog howling and chicken noises, I finally realised it wasn't worth bothering with anymore, even though the last 20 years have been mainly for laughs/entertainment.

This farce of an event should do the voting first to get the political brown nosing and digs out the way. This is clearly no problem as it has little to no bearing on the "music" purported to be judged. This would then allow those genuinely interested in the aural pollution served up to enjoy this years offerings. Terry Wogan and Graham Norton biting back with some salty quips was/is the best reason to ever tune in to this. So surprised its not on Channel 5
