This sometimes happens, a band or singer who is big, or looks like they are going to be big, fade away and vanish. I was reminded of it a day or two ago when a song by Dido came on the radio, and I thought that she was really big about 15 or so years ago, and I hadn’t heard any of her stuff for several years.
Another one was Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, they had a couple of hits, Mr Soft and Judy Teen, followed by the huge Come up and see me make me smile. After this, they disappeared and looked set to be very big indeed. Nick Kershaw was another one, he had a run of decent stuff in about 84 then stalled.
There are probably others too, sometimes a relatively unknown artist starts with a huge hit, but can’t follow it up.

Perhaps the batteries ran out Carty Gene.

At some music awards one of either Noel or Liam Gallagher, added an L to the middle of the name badge on her dressing room door. Don't think she was all that impressed!

I was thinking Punk Band Tenpole Tudor - who were formed originally in 1977 but finally had a top 10 hit with Swords of a Thousand men in April 1981 at no 6, a position it held for 10 weeks. After that they got to number 16 with "Wunderbar" in August the same year. But they didn't seem to have much big chart success after that with the original line up splitting in 1982. They've reformed on and off a number of times and frontman Ed Tudor-Pole still tours apparently as a one man show.
Another group from the 80's was the Flying Pickets - a cappella vocalist group - formed in 1982 with the original line up - apparently mainly actors previously. "Only you" was their only number 1 at Christmas 1983 at 5 weeks then "When you're young and in love" got to no 7 in the UK but after that a 3rd single a cover of the Eurythmics' "Who's That Girl" barely charted. After that the original line up started to fall away, with 2 of the members going back to pursuing acting although it is said that about 27 members over the years have come and gone and the band has never really gone away and have since recorded new material.
The of course there was Bros..........

Whatever happened to Duffy?

It's interesting Steve that Duffy has just seemed to fade away after being eclipsed by Adele when she seemed a more varied and versatile talent compared to Adele's (for me) one trick pony style she has. Perhaps Duffy has the wrong management, not part of the X-Factor style factory these days or simply wants to do things on her own terms which heaven forbid someone musically should be stupid enough to do these days.
Here's an interesting link about Duffy's 'comeback's' too. Not really a fan of hers but don't really hate her either.

Good shout on Duffy, she was quite big for a time then just faded away. I didn't think she was bad either. Tenpole Tudor, I just remember for Swords of a thousand men, i don't recollect any others. A bit like Yellow Dog in a way

Natalie Imbruglia. She was pretty much unknown and had a huge hit with Torn in 1997, which I thought was very good, don't remember much else from her.
