I've just finished watching the first three parts of this, repeated on Monday mornings, as I missed it in the evening when it was first on a few weeks back. It’s another one of those programmes where a group of people relive a time period, this time it’s a group of women in a clothing factory in South Wales, and it’s presented by Alex Jones from the One Show.
The first episode was based on 1968, and it tends to focus on the struggle for equal pay in workplaces, but there’s plenty of music and other stuff from the eras. The 1968 edition seemed to be a bit downbeat, the girls looked a bit frumpy and were a bit peed off with their inequality with the men, barred from pubs and clubs and so on.
The second and third episodes were 1973 and 1976 and they seemed to really enjoy both! In 73 they went on a works outing and in 76 they won equal pay after a strike. I’ve noticed this before, it is a common theme running through these programmes, that the 70s ones are ALWAYS the one the people in them really like.
The clothes too, were better, the young girl playing the part of the secretary looked fantastic in the 1976 episode, she had her hair done like Farrah Fawcett did, and at the end of year party was dancing to ABBA, wearing a blue sort of jumpsuit type thing. She looked very much like this girl I liked at about that time, and got mentioned in the retro charts thread!
(I’m a Gene Hunt and Jack Regan fan, I should'nt be talking about girly stuff!)
Some great 70s music in the background too.
