These photos are great Del. Thanks for posting these. I remember being down there in the 80s and being fascinated by the place. No more though... That final shot is so sad to see.
Gene.

I think the same about the last one. I don't see why they couldn't leave BBC up there. We all know it will be forever associated with them. They should have put the original font back up.

Sad it’s not still in use by the BBC but good that at least it hasn’t been demolished and it’s found a new use

Having checked the circular part of this building is listed. Good job really as I've no doubt it would have been razed and a crappy new housing estate put on it.

Thanks for the fantastic photos Del. I think the Centre opened around about 1960.
very sad that it's no longer the production centre of some the greatest television in the world.
I went inside the centre with the wife on a tour about seven or eight years ago, but I was highly disappointed with it, they didn't show us much at all considering the brilliant history of the building. I remember the Strictly Dancing studio seemed really small I couldnt believe how they could stage it in there. We saw a bit of the newsroom and the weather department. That was about it really.
The only thing in production was a show called' Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Off Crisps' they were rehearsing that show. I'd never seen it before and still haven't up to now.
I was surprised they didn't put on a better tour? It was £15.00 each which wasn't ooh bad, but all in all pretty crap really. I'm afraid I haven't got much time for the modern BBC these days though.

Brilliant pic's Del. One interesting thing with the recent demolition of some of the site in recent years was seeing QPR's ground from the H&C line as it's only around the back of the site in South Africa Road. Would be nice if they put the original 'Television Centre' legend back on the building even if the 'BBC' words/logo can't be put on there.

Great pictures, thanks for posting Del. Whenever I see that building, whether on TV or 'in the flesh' it always takes me back to the 70's and Blue Peter with the classic team of John Noakes, Valerie Singleton and Peter Purves. It would have been better had the BBC lettering remained but here's a time-lapse clip of them being removed: Like the pics Del. Who are the four forum members outside? Those vagrants are from left to right: Vienna, Perfect Pseudonym, John Steed, and Brown Granada. Don't tar all of us with that brush though, most of us still look human. Sam.
