Very sad news. My father and I met Tom Neil and other WW2 pilots at a book signing event some years ago. It was an honour to meet them all and to listen to my father's conversations with them. Although my father wasn't in active service during the war it was very soon after that he was in the RAF as an airframe fitter and was part of ground crew. Each pilot without fail showed their respects back to my father by saying that without the support of people like him in ground crew, they couldn't have done what they were able to achieve. What I liked about them was that there wasn't any trumpet blowing, they didn't consider themselves heroes, they just stated that they had a job to do and had to get on with it. It is remarkable that many of these pilots reached the end of the war let alone the age that Tom has been fortunate to attain. We have so much to thank the survivors and those that lost their lives for and they all have my greatest respect. R.I.P Tom

Agreed. We owe the Ww2 veterans a lot. My dad served in it, with the 8th army in North Africa. He spent the last three years of the war in a Pow camp in Germany after being captured at Tobruk.
