Great thread. Hard to narrow it down. 1 Get Carter (had to be number 1, the best film ever) 2 Vanishing Point. 3 Sweeney 2 (Of course) 4 The French Connection 5 Life of Brian.
It seems that GC is a very popular choice. I'm guessing it's because it's a bloody good film.

A lesser known cult film from 1979 that I came across a few years ago is 'Saint Jack' directed by Peter Bogdanovich. Filmed on location in Singapore it stars Ben Gazzara as a hotel/brothel owner who gets into various scrapes. It features several British actors- Denholm Elliot, James Villiers, Joss Ackland & Rodney Bewes of all people. George Lazenby also makes an appearance. An unusual & atmospheric film.

Just five very difficult but certainly focuses the mind. In no particular order; 1) French Connection (and French Connection II also equally brilliant and provides the conclusuon). 2) Ger Carter 3) Alien 4) Taxi Driver 5) All the president’s men.
I’ll probably think of something else within two minutes of sending this.

Thanks for spotting my typo due to r and t being next to each other on the keyboard. All the president’s meh and Taxi Drover have a nice ring to them.

With a week of annual leave coming up I'm going to make the effort to sit on my lardy Aris' and watch all five films on my list as posted earlier - Villain, Get Carter, Le Mans, Dirty Harry and The Long Good Friday. The chances are it'll put me in the right mood to watch some Sweeney, Profs or Minder too. Has to be done doesn't it...? ''Respect! Respect? You don't know the meaning of the word unless you're Vic Dakin! Tell him somebody, tell him!'' ''You're a big man but you're in bad shape, with me, it's a full time job, now behave yourself'' ''Racing is life, everything else is just... waiting'' ''All this aggravation for five poxy grand...?'' ''Do ya feel lucky punk? Well, do ya...?'' Villain, Big screen nirvana, News at ten
