What are people's memories of the Ford Capri?
Having owned one in the 80's, I still love the Capri and wish I still had mine tucked away for nice little weekend drives. I'll post some pictures of my car later.
Interesting little video clip from Thames TV circa 1978:

Great idea for a thread Gene and an interesting period video I really like the Capri - particularly the Mark 3 version which has the late 70s/early 80s feel and was featured in The Professionals and Minder Here is a picture of possibly the most famous pair of Capris The Saint

Great car, my favourite is the 69 to 74 mark 1 version, the only one I have driven was a silver W regd Mark 3, like the one in Saint's pic

I have owned 2 Ford Capri's. In 1992 I bought an X registration 2.8 injection in Blue and in 1994 I bought a Y registration 2.8 injection in Graphite Grey. Both were 4 speed manual which was reckoned by a lot of people to be a more reliable gearbox than the later 5 speed. They were great fun to drive and quite fast in their day (160 BHP) but had pretty poor brakes with only drum brakes on the rear. I owned the Y reg one for 3 and a half years and spent very little money on it apart from servicing. The X reg one was only in my possession for a few months. I wish I had one now for weekend use! Here is the Capri I had back in the 80's. The day I traded it in for the Quattro Gene.

Never owned any Capris myself although a mate had a total of 4 from 1995 to 2002. He had his brothers old V plate MK3 1.6L as his first car but it was a bit of a banger, was metallic maroon with Ghia seats. Then he got a black 1.6LS A reg, with aftermarket alloys. He had to have it pulled out of a ditch after a bit of enthusiastic driving once! But it survived and he even managed to sell it privately before getting a metallic blue A plate 2.0S 5 speed. Not a bad motor although it got sold for spares when someone clouted him from the left side out of a turning.
After having a black XR2 MK2 Fiesta for about 7 months he then got his ultimate; a Rosso Red 2.8 inj Special D plate, which he ran for 3 years and I was a passenger in a couple of times. Very nice motor but he sold it in 2002 when he was looking for his first place to live with his future missus. Good to know that a Capri club member bought it in the end.
My fav Capris would be (apart from Gold and Silver 3.0S MK3's.......) would be a MK1 3.0GXL with the twin headlamps and a metallic coloured MK2 3.0 Ghia Capri with the vinyl roof! (Bodie drove one for some 1st series eps in The Pros).
I also hear that SOO636R - The X pack Silver 3.0S MK2 with a black vinyl roof, the Ford press car driven by Doyle in a few 1st series Professionals eps is currently under restoration after being off the road since 1985. I wrongly believed a rumour that went round that it was repainted black at some point, but I've since found out it never was. (t was apparently being confused with another black painted similar car seen for sale as a project car). Great to hear its getting the sympathetic treatment it deserves, and hope to see the finished car in the flesh one day (along with a certain famous bronze Consul.......). It was reported on a Pros Facebook group but has gone quiet for a long time now.

My most vivid Capri memory is of being thrown about on the back seat of my uncle's Mk1 3 litre Broadspeed Capri with my two cousins in 1973, blasting up the M6 towards Cheshire to get to a footie match on time. In fashionabale custard yellow with a matt black bonnet, black vinyl roof, slatted rear window, Minilite magnesium alloys, new-fangled reflective raised digit numberplates and Lucas 'Square 8' fog lamps it looked the absolute dog's danglies. It had quite a few more extras over and above the standard Broadspeed spec and had as much presence on the road as any foreign exotic. He was a high ranking copper at the time (in 1965 he was the arresting officer when Myra Hindley was nicked for her terrible crimes, a few days after Ian Brady) and had a new car every nine to twelve months, he kept it for about eighteen months as he liked it so much, but we never saw it again after that. If memory serves me right, his next motor was a Renault of some description, from then on he only ever bought European cars. Villain

I've always loved the Capri in all its versions over the years. I'd have liked one back in the 80's and we had the opportunity of an original J plate 3.0 GT from Annie's aunt and uncle but with kids on the way we had to stick with the Cortina mk5 we had at the time.
I've not ruled out getting one though and one day when funds permit then there could be one as another weekend car.
Sam.

I had one of the worst examples, a V reg burgundy 1.6 automatic with a vinyl roof!! This would have been around 1989/1990, when the hot hatch scene was at it's peak It was all I could afford but it got me around..........for a while. I did lust after a Brooklands 280 for a while but then I managed to get a MK1 GTi and that was the end of that
