I'd never seen any episodes of this Thames Television ITV forerunner to Top Gear (I know that was a BBC series) and this medley I discovered on the last few days and they are marvellous for car fans! Some road tests and interviews with heads of the motor industry at the time which make interesting listening and viewing;
Presented by the late Shaw Tayor, Tony Bastable (remember him from early Magpie episodes) and a young pre Top Gear Chris Goffey there's tests on the Triumph Dolomite Sprint vs te BMW 2002, the new MK3 Ford Capri, how to maintain a new MK2 Escort (!), a 1975 tour of the Morgan factory and a 1981 one tour of Caterham and a 1977 interview and factory of Panther (they made the De Ville........DC Jellinek's favourite car after he saw that film of Shirley Hicks.....). Other tests of the Fiat 128 3P, Renault 5, Maxda RX3 and the Mazda 323 MK1, and a 1973 look at American cars.
Then the clips regarding car security and insurance write offs are interesting too! The condition of the filming look like they were filmed yesterday and the cars look like preserved classics today!!
Pick and choose from 41 clips on this Youtube medley! Enjoy:

I've loved watching this series on youtube, if only the'd post full episodes ??? Slightly biased but I enjoyed the Dolomite sprint episode. The Fiat X19 being thrashed across some waste ground is also a personal favorite.

There's a new episode of Drive in from 1974, featuring the Oliver Winterbottom Lotus Elite. I'll have one of these one day

It's here. The one you've all being waiting for. A real road test of the Vanden Plas 1500!

A bastard Allegro with a posh grill and leather seats is still an Allegro at the end of the day. 🤣
Love it when he says the seats will outlast the body.
Nice little find, Mini.

It's here. The one you've all being waiting for. A real road test of the Vanden Plas 1500! An average, indifferent car that’s been kitted out nicely, and extra care taken with its construction. I wondered where Toyota got its ideas from :D

Before this there was A Vanden Plas version of the Austin 1100 and 1300.The better one was the earlier 1100 version, which was finished to a very high standard, the 1300, though faster, was cheapened slightly.
