Watching tonight's episode I noticed the actor best known for playing Amos Brearly in 'Emmerdale Farm' ( he was in 1,310 episodes according to imdb ), I've never seen him in anything else before, not surprising as he only has 8 imdb credits.

Good spot Art. Claire Neilson was also in tonight's episode playing a different role to the more regular one she had on the squad in the 1974 series too.

Not that I watch Soap Operas - I gather the character Amos, was still 'alive' in the more recent Emmerdale - though (obviously) not appearing - but aparently, living abroad. I saw an episode a couple of years ago and there was a B&W Photo of him behind the bar in the boozer.
I would have thought he'd have been written out by now.

Special Branch is a great series. I'm not keen at all on the Nesbitt episodes but the George Sewell episodes are really good. Some fantastic locations on offer too throughout. Gene. I watched one the other night that had Jenny (?) from Tomorrow Man in it. Bloomin boring as hell. It was the earlier series with Nesbitt.

The George Sewell episodes are infinitely better, even if only because George Sewell is in them. Gene.

I don't understand why most people see the whole series as "Dross". OK, it's not as action packed as the "Sweeney" -and a couple of the story lines are a little daft - on the whole it was a good series - and without it, I doubt we'd have had the "Sweeney".
I tried to watch the early pre-Euston series and just couldn't settle into it. Possibly because I was so used to watching the later Euston produced ones.

I think the George Sewell episodes are great, particularly the ones also featuring Patrick Mower. Being filmed on location by Euston Films gives them a very pre-Sweeney feel.
Well worth watching.

Be good if the 73 and 74 series was restored! Definitely needs to be done!

He was one of the best bad guys in Sweeney and deserved his own series (not as that character) in some sort of authoritarian role.
