Another one of mine was the third, and final, Mark 5 Cortina I owned, OTF 533X, it was a blue 1.6L, totally standard, and was an absolute bargain, I only paid £160.00 for it in 2003 and it was in really good nick, the guy selling it had no idea that these were, by then, starting to become classics. One wing was starting to go a bit and that was the only bodywork needed and I fitted a replacement wing myself and sprayed it in to match.
I kept it until 2009 when a short term financial crisis made me sell it, which I have regretted ever since.

What a great question...
It's one that is almost impossible to answer for me as I have dearly loved all of the cars that I have owned over the years!!
But, when everything is considered I would have to say I'd love to own again (or I wish I had kept!!) my first classic car...
At the time (2001) it was not deemed to be a classic as such, just an old car!
I spent £300 pounds on a 1980 Ford Cortina (Mk5 or Cortina 80) 1.6L in Sirius red with a chocolate brown interior and I felt like the hounds hangers (I used to pretend I was a low ranking CI5 operative)!! It had only done 40,000 miles and had a Weber carb' on it for extra fun...
My time with JPA 482V was short lived as my attentions were quickly diverted by a 1.6GL Cortina (HBK 280X, Cardinal Red) that I simply had to have...
I'd love to own that 1.6L Cortina again. I loved that beast!!

The car I'd like to own again would be a Rover SD1. I had a blue one which I bought in 1992 and was registered in 80' twas the 2600, I loved the interior! Especially the dash, but if I could have one now I'd definitely go for the 3500. I always remember this car because it was the last car I purchased, before passing my test, so consequently I drove it around for quite some time with no licence, it was just to nice to not drive! I always remember it took a lot of juice, and remember running out of petrol on the hard shoulder, the pressure was emence lol! GC

GC My parents had a yellow 1978 Rover 2600 SD1 when I was still at school GC. The second car that I owned was a 1979 Rover SD1 and was a 2300 in silver. I spent a fortune on it and sold it after 11 months as it was an absolute money pit. It was a lovely comfortable car and did indeed have a great interior/dash but it was so unreliable! I agree with you though GC that the 3500 is the one to have really Steed

But when ya think about it, its madness to think that they made a car that big, with one model having an engine, nearly twice as big as another model! But I would of liked to have been able to drive all 4 versions, to compare!

The 2000 was only a 4 pot and I would imagine it was a bit gutless. I fancied a 3500 Vitesse at the time but couldn't afford one. I did have a Vitesse boot spoiler on mine though Steed

I'd ruddy love an early SD1 but so many crumbled into oblivion about 30 odd years ago...!!!
I would not mind a V8 version nor a straight-six but I may have to be seriously persuaded to own the 4-cylinder version.
Yep, and early 3500 auto for me in 'Caribbean Blue' with 'Coriander' trim (if only leather trim was an option at launch!!!) and the optional alloy wheels and electric windows. That'll do for me thanks!

Would look good in Silver! The fixtures and fittings though were always a bit temperamental weren't there.. GC

When launched you could get the SD1 in 'Platinum Silver' which was a lovely shade...
Maybe I'd avoid the electric windows and go for the 'strong arm' versions!!!!
