We all have fond memories of cars which we used to own and probably not so fond memories of other vehicles. If you could own one of your previous cars again alongside your current vehicle just for fun/weekends etc what would it be? (It doesn't matter if the vehicle no longer exists by the way!) My choice would be my Ford Capri 2.8 Injection (FHJ 674Y) which I owned from 1994 to 1997. It was great fun to drive and very reliable. I spent very little money on it apart from routine servicing etc and only really sold it because I was allocated a company vehicle and it was no longer needed as my daily transport.

Can it be a car and a bike? It is no secret that I wish I still had my mk4 Cortina 2.0 Ghia in Jupiter Red and my Suzuki GS550EN from many years ago: Although I still long for another Cortina I did manage to get another Suzuki GS550EN about 18 months ago: I've even managed to get hold of identical Cibies to mount over the headlight, the correct rear grabrail (which needs rechroming), and a NOS chrome front mudguard too. Just need to find the correct tone of gold paint for the wheels now. Sam.

My Austin A40, GBV 659E, which was my first car, I owned it from 1979 to 84. It was just too unbelievably ace for words!

For me it would be the original and unrestored 1965 Mk1 1275 Cooper S I sold about eight years ago, or the blue 1970 Rover P5B Coupe I sold just over three years ago. Big mistake in both cases, but that's life I suppose! I shan't miss the Japanese export Mini automatic when it goes, I've hardly used it at all and haven't really bonded with it the way I have with all of my previous Minis. I'm looking for its replacement right now (not another Mini) which will hopefully be my 'retirement car' so it needs to be something special which I can really get stuck into and enjoy, without ever thinking about selling it on at some point, the chances are Mrs.Villain will outlive me so she can do what she wants with it after I've popped my clogs. I wish I had kept hold of my second MK1 Escort. It was a two door too as the first one was a 4 door. I had 4 but that one was my favourite. Long gone now too sadly. Also had several VWs over the years and regret selling a 63 Beetle I picked up cheap. That's life I suppose.

Brilliant thread John Where to start though? Top of my list was my race tuned XR3i. Bog standard to look at it (unless you looked under the bonnet and at the exhaust coming out of the back). It took many an RS Turbo by surprise at the lights in the 80's. A gorgeous car that had to be re shelled after some twat ploughed into the side of me from a side road while I was on a dual carriageway. I loved that car. Gene.

I always preferred the look of the Mk3 Escort to the Mk4. One of my other previous cars was a C reg Ford Orion 1.6 injection Ghia which I always thought of as an XR3i with a boot! Mine had a completely standard engine and had Escort RS Turbo alloys. Happy days! Steed

I had an N reg VW Corrado VR6 Storm in Mystic Blue, one of only 240 made in that colour. 2.9 V6, DOHC, Leather Interior, Alpine Head Unit, Tracker and a trick alarm that meant you could start the car remotely (loved doing that in crowded car parks). Mint condition, just had a re-spray, timing chain replaced, new clutch, the lot. Sold my MK1 Golf GTi Campaign in order to fund the work and then some tit pulls out in front of me at a junction, I swerve, mount the kerb pile into a road sign, writing it off.
So, that is a car I would like to own again as I never got to enjoy it and ended up losing two great cars for nothing. I did get another C after many, many miles looking for a suitable replacement but it just wasn't the same.
Gene, I share your pain. It's bad enough losing a cherished motor but even worse when it's not your fault.

Very sad story Steve Austin - With me I've had more Vauxhall Astras than Ford Escorts and the Astras have all served me well.
But if it was the one car I no longer own that I wish I could have back (even if there were holes everywhere on it!!) is my first ever car - a 2 door MK2 Escort - HNK82V. Only a 1.3L but with todays prices I could possibly get my money back if I had it all restored and then sold it again(!) but it would have needed a lot of panels and welding and wasn't economic to do so in 1995!
But if it survived and I had all that done to it, I'd probably want to keep it and then if the original 1300 engine was getting long in the tooth, I'd then want to fit a bigger engine, uprated brakes, shocks, diff, and change the interior, fit alloy wheels etc!! Which I never did to it at the time. Although I would not make it into an RS lookalike, I'd still keep the original colour for a laugh - metallic brown!! (Roman Bronze actually and very 70's!).
In a perfect world I'd love to have it back as my boy racer/modified car along with my mostly standard silver Ghia I have, and I'd use whatever car for the occasion!

I had a Mk2 Golf gti about 10 years ago. Another I wished I'd kept. It was proper too. 2 door, big bumper, 8 valve and black. Lovely to drive and quick enough for me. Sold it as needed the money for something or other. Regrets, I've had a few.
