www.philipglenisterfans.org.uk/a2a-scripts.htmlThe shooting scripts for the above-mentioned episodes are available to read on the above link. I had a print out of the first one when I was living with my parents. I'm not sure where it is, but I'm certainly intent on digging it out next time I go home! Interesting reading; some very similar, some differences ... some of which they improved upon other things I wish they had left in. *Cough* episode 7 *cough*. Interesting to see the dates of Chris, Shaz and Ray's deaths, though. Ray - 15th September 1977 Chris - 14th February 1975 Shaz - 19th April 1996 (and obviously Gene's was 2nd June 1953) Chris' was definitely earlier than I was expecting. I wonder which years they went back to initially?

There's a surprise. I also had Chris down as dying much later than 1975 & I thought Ray was earlier than 1977. I'll read through those later Bols Gene.

It is interesting! I suppose there's every possibility that they changed things before filming, but those are at least the dates they originally intended. Ray's seemed about right to me, but Chris I expected mid-late 80s? My other half, bless him for his feigned interest, said "so actually they're now living in their futures ...?" If they died in the 70s and Ashes is the 80s

It does seem odd and somewhat confusing that Ray and Chris's dates are also subsequent to my journey back to '73 It also makes me wonder what happened to my Annie? Sam

I mean ... you’ve never asked her? Of course, all the best people were shot in the head ... right, Guv? Well. That’s a fairly unique conversation.

She wouldn't have known just like Ray, Chris, and Shaz only found out when watching the tapes, Annie never had such an opportunity. What is it about Annie in her uniform eh? Sam.

You took her to the pub, didn’t you? I presumed she would remember then. Annie is very pretty, there is no doubt of that, but I can’t say she’s my type, Sam.

Whilst the drama and police elements of LOM were brilliant, it’s science fiction elements left a lot to be desired. It needed a clearer explanation , it all seemed too ambiguous. I confess I’m a LOM purist, but the A2A conclusion as I understand it, lacks clarity. Happy to be corrected however.

I don’t think it helps that the directors seemed to be fairly fluid in their ideas. I admit to the belief that, had they done just 3 series of LOM and Ashes had never existed ( not something I like to imagine ) then it may well have been a bit more closed and clear. But there wouldn’t have been half the fun. There are some interesting lines from that point of view in the scripts above - more detail about Gene’s having forgotten, etc. But they did seem to leave it a bit to viewer opinion. Philip Glenister said in an interview that he wasn’t quite sure what state [Gene] was in after the end of Ashes so ... if they don’t know, what hope have we got. I imagine we all have a very slightly different interpretation of the Mars/Ashes universe!

Loads of song choices are different, too. Gene, Ray and Chris are meant to appear in the Quattro for the first time to Prince Charming (with Ray in a pink shirt!) Not sure that would have had the same impact! The very end wasn’t originally set to Heroes, either ...
