That Audi Quattro in the series is V reg’d which was 79-80. As far as I know they didn’t come out until 81?

Production of the Audi Quattro began in 1980 and was available in Europe by late 1980.
A stunt car was also used in the series, which was written off while performing a stunt for the opening episode of Series 3. The wrecked car was only used for interior shots after this, and also for the final episode where it was shot to pieces. This left the original car untouched.

The original one is still coming out with us, fighting crime ... when you're not ditching me for Sam and 1973

Just watching S1E7 (can you tell? :P) I'm just wondering ... that horrific reconstruction scene ends with the back of a beige Datsun in shot; the supposed getaway vehicle. Then back in CID, Gene asks Chris to check for any 'last minute re-sprays on Datsuns'. Is this a cheeky reference to the true owner of the reg plate, or, more than likely, do I need to get out more?
