Yes. And that IS an order Honestly, if you love Life On Mars you'll love The Sweeney. You'll also be able to understand the cryptic Sweeney references in Life On Mars, such as Frank Morgan in LOM is a play on one of the Sweeney Characters Frank Haskins who was played by Garfield Morgan. There are others... You'll also be interested to know that Peter Braham (RIP), who was the stunt driver in Life On Mars was also a stunt man in The Sweeney as well as playing a few bit part characters in the series. Cor, you boys are certainly bigging this up! It does look from the outside a definite man’s programme, but I shall give it my best attention.

There have been a number of females that have joined us on Meets over the years. A testament to the fact that The Sweeney is also enjoyed by women too.
A good show is a good show regardless of the gender of the viewer.

I will say though that it is very different from LOM and A2A. It is a lot more serious, darker in content at times and is definitely of its era. Yes The Sweeney absolutely has female fans (I'm not disputing that clearly ) but sometimes when people rave enthusiastically about a show it doesn't meet expectations of a new viewer. I like it and watched it for the first time in 2011. It took a few episodes for me to get into it, and I definitely like some episodes better than others. Strong writing and flawed characters makes it a crime classic. They are individual episodes not a continuous storyline.

Well said Batgirl I think that whilst LOM was a parody of the 1970s (and a very enjoyable one!). The Sweeney is the 1970s - it's a time capsule of 1970s London, it was ground breaking TV in it's gritty realistic portrayal of the police and villains of the time. I think it fair to say that if it wasn't for The Sweeney there would not have been LOM 30 years later! - See below link... Life On Mars - BBC Press Office ReleaseAlex - whatever your thoughts after seeing The Sweeney episode one, stick with it. Also, I would recommend watching the episodes in order, as even though they are individual episodes there is some character development over the four series and the later 1977/78 episodes have a slightly more updated feel than the earlier ones (well as "updated" as 1977/78 can feel!) An interesting article - thank you! Strange to think it was filmed in 2005. That seems like so very long ago! :o
I'll certainly stick with it - I don't give up that easily! However, it's being delivered to work so that someone would be there to take it in ... and it's being delivered on my day off! So I'm going to have to go in and get it! (Crawling on my hands and knees behind desks so that I can't be cornered and interrogated about work, surreptitiously removing it from my desk and sneaking out in the same manner - sounds like life at Fenchurch East!)

... they've arrived a day early. Ready to be snowed in tomorrow! We must be the only place in the UK without any snow!
