I’ve got a definite order of preference to the series and that’s 2,1,3. I wondered if anyone else agreed or had their own order of preference? I don’t think LOM differed massively between 1-2; they really are quite a strong continuation- perhaps because they’re only set in one year? But A2A has a different feel to each series in my opinion (and no I don’t just mean the hair! but incidentally I do think Shaz, Chris and myself did look at our best in the middle series!). Series 1 I love dearly but I think the interaction between the main cast is at its best in series 2 which allows the storylines to flow better. Series 3 frustrates me a little bit because Keats (oh how I loathe that man) comes crashing in and pulls everything apart. I could quite happily have had a dozen series like 2, so it annoys me that darkness takes over by the third series. I know that it had to go that way to get to the conclusion but ... :( Interested to hear your thoughts, constructs!

That's a difficult choice Drakey. I agree that 3 is a bit dark and about Keats but if I have to choose a fave it would also be the 2nd series. I like them all though!
(Incidentally, there is an Ashes to Ashes type background on one of the available forum themes if you fancy it. Just go to "Edit Profile / Settings" and select the GH A2A Stars theme. It'll bring back dark memories!)

I do like the Summers storyline. But it saddens me when Gene and Alex are turned against one another (I mean hell, you didn’t have to shoot me, but you know what I mean!). The storyline at the Drake’s was another one I enjoyed a lot. It’s just a great series! Incidentally regarding Summers - did many of you get the pont du l’alma straight off? It meant absolutely nothing to me because Diana’s death was before I was aware of much in the watch of current affairs! But I wondered if we were meant to know when Alex couldn’t remember (as part of her slowly forgetting her other life) or whether we were meant to be kept guessing too?

Hmmmmm Just had an unnerving conversation with the other half. "Put Ashes to Ashes on" "Really?" "Yeah. But put something from series 3 on" "whyyyy?" "Because it's the best series". So. This wedding. It's looking dicey I did make him state his case: Memorable story lines, Jim Keats who is, in his opinion, an amazing character and his favourite episodes. I think all of these things can be eradicated by the fact that I hate anything that drives a wedge between Alex and Gene and, what else ... oh yes JIM KEATS!! The true anti-christ and the character from anything, ever that I hate the most. Ahem. Nevertheless, we are watching episode 4

Come on folks, 3 votes only so far? I'm sure more of you have watched Ashes than this Gene.

Well, we are up to 5 and so far everyone's in agreement! I'm not sure an amicable poll is what I expected, but there you have it.

I think generally most would be in agreement that in the first series Alex was finding her feet and there was a lot of discord between the main characters as there was in the first series of Life On Mars. In the second series (both of A2A and LoM) there was a better working relationship and the mutual respect had developed. But the third series there were the issues that Keats raised that turned the relationships once again back into doubt.
I would agree with you that order of preference is 2, 1, 3 but would add that 1 & 3 are closely matched.
Sam.

Personally I think the time-travel thing is a bit far fetched. Even where I come from in 2065 it is not possible and if Brains can't build a time-machine then it certainly can't be possible.
I was able to watch Ashes To Ashes as father has a full archive of all vintage TV on his own personal holographic gamma-drive. The three-dimensional holographic renderings must be seen to be believed - especially the scene with Gene where Alex is seen removing her blouse! Scott freeze-rendered that scene many times for a gratuitous close-up.
It was a great program and I agree that series two is the best.

I would agree with you that order of preference is 2, 1, 3 but would add that 1 & 3 are closely matched. Sam. I'm always a little intrigued to know how a LOM series 3 would have played out. Not sure I can imagine Frank Morgan going mad and destroying the office, for example! 1 and 3 are a world apart - if you compare them directly, without 2 for context, they're different programmes! Gone is the tongue-in-cheek, vivid plastic 80s ... it's crazy how much it changes really. What I enjoy these days is that because I know the stories inside out and back to front I can watch them for completely different things - minor details, throw away lines etc (which I'm still finding, much to my amazement!) because I don't have to follow the story. I found myself on the amazon reviews for Ashes not so long ago and I can't believe some of the bad reviews. I'm perfectly happy to accept that some people won't like it half as much as I do, but there's a wave of proper hatred out there if you look for it - especially from LoM purists. I find it bizarre that anyone could absolutely love one and hate the other. A common thread is that they were flogging a dead horse or just copied LoM ... somewhat missing the point, I feel.
