It's been a while since I last posted in here so here are a couple of old Top Gear clips on the venerable old P5B... And as a test post, one of the 1967 brochure shots taken for the revamp when the cars were upgraded with the Buick derived V8 engine... ibb.co/C505Q15Villain

Some more P5 stuff This one shows an early P5 3 litre Coupe on test in the Alps, with some typically tweedy looking Rover bods from Solihull having a jolly boys outing... Another P5 3 litre Coupe on display at the Earls Court Motor Show in October 1965, the colour combination is light Navy over marine grey... This is one of the P5 3 litre prototype Saloons taken c.1957... Her Maj with her P5 3 litre Saloon 'JGY 280' and Princess Anne in the '60s, the reg' number was later transferred to Her Maj second P5B 3.5 litre Saloon in 1973, which is now on display at Gaydon museum... The Mk2 P5 3 litre Saloon was launched in late 1962 for the 1963 model year... An early P5 3 litre Saloon looking very distinguished in two tone livery, probably pine green over juniper green, somewhere in London in the mid '60s... Villain

The prototype is a real beauty. I've never clapped eyes on her before. Thanks Vill

Great pics, Villain. Rover had some interesting stuff under development at the time of the British Leyland merger, the P7 was a development of the P6 with a six cylinder engine, which had an extended front to accommodate it, this was dropped in favour of the P8, which was seen as it's eventual replacement. It wasn't far off being ready for production, but was abandoned for two reasons, first that Leyland saw it as duplicating the then new XJ6, but also because it dismally failed a crash test. Modifications were made, but only made a very marginal improvement. One prototype still exists
