I apologise in advance for putting this YouTube clip up. It features Jerry Lewis who appears to be gatecrashing a live TV show of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.
Along with a lot of people I found Jerry Lewis to be extremely annoying at times. Anyway when Lewis starts his antics Bing fearing Lewis is about to pull his toupee off in public exits stage right.
I don't blame Bing for walking off myself. Apparently the two never spoke to each other again.
Charles.

Very strange clip. If you look at the lives of Lewis, Crosby & Hope, they all seem to have been troubled men in one way or another. All that fame & adulation so often comes at a price. You would never have seen Freddie Starr attempting to de-wig Brucie for instance. Throwing live maggots into an audience yes, but he knew where to draw the line. These American stars no doubt felt that anything was possible, they were untouchable.
Jerry Lewis is an interesting character. I read an article online about a personal appearance tour he did late in life, he would appear at various venues in the US & do a question & answer show for mostly OAP fans who would turn up in coaches. According to this article he was generally abusive to the audience, yet they still lapped it up.

I never found Jerry Lewis to be remotely funny at all. I just found him stupid, noisy and infantile.

I thought Lewis was very good in Scorsese's 'The King Of Comedy' but of course he was playing a straight part. You may have seen tv doctor David Lewis ( no relation to Jerry ) on various shows, a few years back he took to wearing a wig that is practically undetectable. Looks like he's very happy to share it with everyone as well- www.christinesterritt.co.uk/the-mind-lab---dr-david-lewis.html

You've got to have nerve to wear a rug like that. What's the label say? The Robert Redford MK2? At least while he's got that syrup on, no one will notice what tie he's wearing. Gene.

I believe Sean Connery wore one for his 007 Bond role and don't forget Kenneth Cope's as Marty in Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)!

Sean's wasn't too bad as I recall, except for his last but one Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. His hairpiece didn't seem as good in that film. I forgot about Ken Cope, it's surprising how many actors have worn them. I suppose they have to sometimes I'm not sure if Ian Hendry ever wore one though. Charles.

Every one of those smudges shows a rug. The only mystery is why he can't afford a better one, or at least a comb to improve what he does have. Gene.

Whether it's a comb over, that spray on hair in a can stuff or a full blown Irish, it's about deception as well as vanity. I think maybe Fabricant wears wigs but also keeps what's left of his own hair & adds extensions, that way it keeps people guessing & puts them off the scent. I think there is a kinky element to wearing a wig for some, like cross dressing. Fabricant looks a bit kinky to me. In fact he reminds me a little of another syrup fiend-
